(I SERIOUSLY HOPE YOU take my kidding with you Sara as a compliment...it is truly meant as one...I only joke and sparr with people I respect [:)])

of course, of course!  respect mah authoritaaaaay!

would someone please explain to me what a K&N is?? I am TOTALLY OUT OF MY ELEMENT on this thread... [sm=uhoh.gif]

k&n is a company that makes high end performance upgrade stuff for engines.  the product up for discussion here is a "permanent" air filter that you can clean, oil, and re-use theoretically for the life of the engine, if it's done properly.  most air filters are disposable, and that's fine for every day driving if you're not concerned about HP (horsepower) and if you don't do a lot of offroad driving.  if you have noticed a dropoff in your car's power or fuel economy, the simplest thing to try is a new air filter.  it won't make a HUGE differnence, maybe 5-7 HP at the engine, but if you're hyper sensitive to your engine performance, you'll notice it.

It has nothing to do with smut so I doubt you would be interested.

I think you have me confused with another forum member on this thread ...[8|]

btw- in attempt to remain on topic..do you mind if I ask what gas mileage you get in the jeep Billy and Sara...and Billy, PLEASE do share the tractor in the pond story with us all. Perhaps if Amanda has a similar problem she can learn from your past experience of how the jeep can help her? [:)]

That was a BRILLIANT shot, Mark.  I am humbled.  [:)]

Now I am going to lunch and let you "at work" loafers carry on.

    there IS NO evidence![;)]

Sara, I am IMPRESSED and in a little awe with your knowledge of cars.[:D]

Isn't 2:00 a little "late" for lunch Billy? It is actually MY lunch break time..I think you just want to get out of telling the tractor story! [;)]

the mileage you will get out of a jeep is highly variable based on tire size and roll resistance, engine size, 4wd, and the driver.

i get 16-18 on the highway, and actually about the same in the city...  i have 30x10.50 bfg all-terrains, which have a very high roll resistance, so that is a contributing factor.  when i had a smaller tire with a less aggressive tread, i got 19-22 on the highway, depending on how fast i wanted to push it.

ETA: shelly, that's what i get out of living with a mechanic...

i LOVE my JEEP.  LOVE LOVE LOVE.  wouldn't trade it for anything in the whole wide world.  it rides like a stagecoach.  it isn't for people who like a clean, quiet ride.

The stagecoach analogy is fabulous!  I always tell people the Jeep is what it is...a Jeep...and it rides like a Jeep, not a luxury vehicle.  Sometimes I feel like a milkshake I bouce around so much but I LOVE the stagecoach analogy, so darn funny and true.

Currently, we've got a Cherokee (the boxy-but-good-but-not-very-aerodynamic body style) and in the past we've had the Wrangler soft top (really wish we'd had the hard top to at least exchange when we needed a noise & road dirt break).  We'll keep the Cherokee forever probably...it's the doggy vehicle no doubt.

I like the looks of the longer bed on the Wrangler Unlimited.

It has been awhile since I checked the mileage but I think it was around 17.  And believe it or not, I also have 31X1050R15 BFG All-Terrains.  [:-]

Sara, do your tires rub just a bit in full lock turns?

Sara, do your tires rub just a bit in full lock turns?

i don't think so, but to be honest, it's been a while since i even made a full lock turn.

i only know of one trail system here in TX and i don't have a fellow 4wd-er to ride with, so if i get stuck in the mud i'm in trouble.  the mud in TX is unlike any mud on earth, as i'm sure amanda can attest to.

speaking of full lock turns, have you had any problems with your power steering pump?  i seem to have developed a slow leak and i'm not sure exactly where it's coming from.

ALSO, billy, while i have your attention, you wouldn't happen to have a bikini top for yours would you?  i have one, but i think the design is CRAP- it attaches to the side roll bars, leaving about an inch gap between the top and the door, which is a really P.I.T.A. when it's been raining and you make that first turn and all the water from the top comes rushing onto your lap.....[>:]  what i WANT is a top that snaps into those plastic spacers between the door and the roll bar, like the full top does...
    • Gold Top Dog
No, I don't have a bikini top.  I think everything about the whole soft top design is crap.  I just found a couple of windows on ebay so now mine is in decent shape again.

Your power steering leak MIGHT just be a hose.  Have you had it checked?

checked?? you mean like by a mechanic?? we don't do that at my house.  it's all bang on the hood and kick the tires and do a rain dance and call it good.[;)][;)]

actually, i think it's a seal at the top of the pump.  i hope it isn't, but i fear it is.

and i absolutely agree everything about the soft top design is crap.  i can't see sh*t out of my side and read windows, which is partly why i never use them.  maybe someone here has a decent bikini top... the one i have is a complete JOKE.

Check on Ebay for your bikini top.

Wow I leave for a little while, come back & see that ya'll have had a great time with this thread[:D].  I looked at a 77 CJ5 today.  It is in pretty good condition.  The body has scratches but I'm going to scratch it up anyway.  It has a new tranny, new tires & a winch.  It also has a 4 inch lift on it.  The interior is plastic/vinyl, which is going to be hot as heck so I may have to have it re-done, if I buy it.  I really like it & it is cheap as heck.  I've got to have a friend drive it for me to see how well it drives because I can't push the clutch in with a cast on my leg (I tried but can't do it)  I'll have to see what he thinks about it before I make any decisions.

Sara- Thanks for keeping them in line!

Shelly-  I expected more from you.  How could you even think about asking for naked pictures of Billy?  I am truly, deeply, disturbed.[:'(]

Billy-  I don't care what Shelly offers you in return, please, please, please keep your clothes on.[:D]

Well, she is trying to entice me but I have been able to resist.  [;)]  Ugly as I am, I look FAR better fully clothed.
