Tattoo

I love tattoos. I'm into the body modification stuff, my wants go beyond tattoos! But I won't get into that.

I've heard that you can compare tattoo pain to light cat scratches. Or if you rake your nails across your skin and can handle that, a tattoo will be no sweat.

Cool tat!  Your granddaughters will really think that's cool when they get older and realize that it's something permanent you'll always have with you.  I think it's sweet!

I got my first tattoo when I was 24, it's red rosebud on my right ankle (my middle name is Rose).  It didn't hurt too badly, but the outlining DOES hurt because they have to make a continuous line with that needle.  Coloring isn't as bad since they basically "dot" it in.

I'm going to get another one by my hip that's going to be the Superman "S" logo but in girly colors (baby blue, pink, and yellow) at some point (can't do that while I'm pg though).

DO NOT USE Bacitracin or neosporin on your tattoo!  It will leech the color out of it and your artist should warn you about that.  You will want to keep petroleum jelly on it and keep it bandaged for a week or so to ensure that it's healing.  You don't want it to scab over because that also will remove color.

Good luck, can't wait to see it!

Gina, Annika's middle name is Rose too.  That is why I wanted a rose.

The tat I posted is not exactly what I am getting but was as close as I could find.  I sort of had the same concern that someone else posited, that being that it looks pretty feminine.  I pretty much got past that because, well, they are both girls.  If I ever have a grandson, I will do something different for him.

She's right about the bacitracin/neosporin.   Do not bandage it for a whole week.  Usually the artist says to keep the bandage on only for a couple hours at the most after you get the tattoo.  You need to make sure that it is always moist (that's what the lotion is for).  If you keep it moist then it shouldn't scab up.

I will be 50, (gawd, can that really be???) on Friday.  Getting my first ever tattoo on Saturday, if I don't weenie out.

I turned 40 last May and to mark the occasion I wanted to get my first tattoo.  More of a spiritual endeavor.  I've wanted one for years but because I get bored easily I figured whatever I choose for a design will irk me down the road and I'll want it off!  LOL

My other concern is the safety issue...clean needles, etc.

    Anywho, HAPPY 50! [sm=joker.gif]

I did think about an elephant, Gina. But not on my arm

Ain't it tough when you get away with a joke like that and no one notices? Or maybe, they did notice and are ignoring it. Ouch, either way.

I think its a great idea.. I hope to get one soon as well.

My opinion on the tatoo you posted is that its not very manly.  I dont much like colored tatoos anyway becase theyre harder to pull off (or you just have to be more careful with them I think)... But that one looks too womanly for me to really picture it on a man.  After going back and looking more... maybe its just the fact that its so many colors...  but what do I know.

I want to get Kaylas paw print.  I actually then started thinking I could get a small print in honor of her and not her actual print (which I have) and that way I could keep adding them as I get dogs (actualy prints are too big to jave them all over)... but that would also involve some sort of idea for an ongoing collection, all in one spot or different places... Im not sure yet.   Maybe Kaylas actual print and mini others...?  Or maybe just Kaylas...

Aside from the pain because thats a given, make sure you like the tatoo, like the colors, like the size and like the spot.  Because you cannot change it.

Amy, if I had FeFe's actual print... that's what I would have used.  I have two paw prints above my ankle for my two girls at the time, FeFe & Gracie. Now that we have Trixie, I'm going to add another paw print to the collection.  Some people like it... and some look at me like I'm stupid but I love it and it actually means something to me... that's all that matters. I like the colors on the tat... and like you said... it's for the granddaughters!  So when/if a grandson comes along... you can get something manly for him [:)]  BTW, the amount of pain depends on where you have it.  My first was painful (lower back) as was DH's first (all the way around his arm) but our second ones were a breeze..... maybe because we got the tough ones out of the way first.  Post a pic after it's done!

    Great minds think alike![;)]

I have Kaylas actual print.  Several of them lol.  My sister in law gave me a Christmas gift of a paw print thing.  You got her print in the putty and let it dry, the pic hangs on the wall with the print next to the photo.  Very nice thing actually.  We did it a bunch until we got a great print, so I have that.  I also have her prints in the cement outside.  Not on purpose but when we cemeneted areas around the pool she kept walking through it no matter how we blocked it off.

I like the idea of her actual one but I also like the idea of being able to add some for other doggies.  Im thinking a big one (Kaylas) and little ones around it, making a circle eventually...

Who cares if some people think your crazy, I sure wouldnt!  lol..

I think tatoos are very personal, so all that matters is if the person wearing it likes it.[:)]

I didn't have a photo of FeFe's paw print until she became sick (and I already had the tattoo).  One chilly morning, she ran out onto our deck and there was the perfect paw print in the frost (I took pics of everything that involved her).  Maybe I could make a black & white copy of that... instead of using the same tattoo I have now, adding another for Trixie, I could add a bigger paw print that's actually FeFe's.... oooh, now you've got me reconsidering the whole thing! [:D] GOOD IDEA!

Tattoos are very personal.  I'm not a generic flower & butterfly type of girl (although I think those are very pretty and some people associate something personal with flowers & butterflies) but I wanted something to suit me.  That's why I think asking what someone thinks is great... but knowing what you want and the way you want it to look, that's the most important thing.

I'm glad I saw this thread... now I've got a whole new idea for my paw prints.   [:)]
