I got robbed

Lena, when I was robbed I was working in the South for a debit insurance company.  I collected those weekly premiums on the old policies and sold newer ones.....so I had a LOT of cash.  My office was in an OK part of town, but I never left money there.  I was going in on a Friday morning to do my weekly report and get the package sent off to the home office....when I unlocked the door, I was suddenly pushed from behind into the office and up against a wall.  I gave the jerk the cash, and he took my purse, (luckily the wrong addy was on my drivers license) but he still felt the need to belt me in the face.  I never went back to that office.  The district manager came to town and packed everything up and we used my diningroom as the local office.  And years LATER when I lived in that town again, I STILL got the willies driving down that street.

You feel violated.  That's normal.  You feel unsafe.  That's normal.  And I can't tell you how to get over it.  What hit me the hardest was the day AFTER the robbery when the composite sketch showed up on the front page of the paper!  And to READ the attack described as an ARMED ROBBERY!

I never felt unsafe in the poor areas of town that I worked.  I never felt unsafe collecting large amounts of cash, but I felt unsafe in that office and I couldn't go back to it.  And, I'm a tough old broad....was even 20 some years ago!

All I can offer are my prayers for PEACE and a feeling of security......you've got that!

Lena, that was a great idea with the dowels -- necessity is the mother of invention.  I'm going to call some boat shops.

Here are some air horns I found:

[linkhttp://store.safetycentral.com/pubujrsasiho.html]http://store.safetycentral.com/pubujrsasiho.html[/link] -- not as small as the one I had, but could be carried - about the size of a deoderant can I think.

[linkhttp://store.safetycentral.com/safsounair.html]http://store.safetycentral.com/safsounair.html[/link] -- the one at the bottom is the small one.  1.5 oz but it doesn't give the dimensions but does list it for personal safety.

[linkhttp://store.preparedness.com/911pesasiair.html]http://store.preparedness.com/911pesasiair.html[/link] -- that one is more what I had in mind too -- and it's refillable.

Not sure if these ship to Canada tho. SOOOO, email me and I'll go get one and send it to you.  And yes, I'm serious.  I'm not sure I've found a tiny one (like in the last link) but I have found a smallish one that would do until you can get better.  It's just up the street from me and I can go get it and send it out in tomorrow's mail (holiday here in the States).  Boating stores Floooor-da has BUNCHES of!!

I am sorry to hear about your series of bad events.  I had a purse stolen at school when I first started teaching.  I have not carried one since.  I use a little change purse that hooks to my keys and I can keep it in my pocket.  He obviously needed it more then you. You can not figure out people like that but please remember not everyone is like that.  Best to you.  BIG HUG!

Lena, I think the one thing that will help you start feeling OK again is to have this guy found and locked up.  Any new developments in that area yet?  Maybe he'll be stupid enough to try and use one of your credit cards - we can only hope, huh?

I haven't checked this for a few days, sorry.  Lena, have you changed your locks and dead bolts yets?

    • Gold Top Dog
Yeah, we have an option.  It's a concealed weapons permit, which means it canNOT be out in plain view.  Considering the heat, we don't wear jackets here to be able to wear a shoulder holster. What's the sense of carrying one in a purse that some punk can drive by & rip off your shoulder?  Then you're giving them weapons to commit the crimes with!

Thanks for all of the kind words and suggestions.
I talked to the detective today and he didn't have anything new to report, he just came back from his 2 days off. I tried again to weasle some more info out of him but all I got was," I can't tell you". Urggggggg, I really don't like when he says that. I bet that he is hiding out somewhere, his buddy must have told him that he was caught and they are looking for him. They wouldn't tell me why they let the driver go, that really confuses me
    .
Callie thank you for all of the info on the horns. I am going to use that screamer thing I got for the kids.
I just wanted to say thank you for your beautiful uplifting talk with me, it means more to me than you'll ever know. I love you Callie but you already know that.

I dont want to make anyone up set up I read through a lot of these posts here. I think it was not so great to have a race issue here (and this is from someone studying to be a cultural anthropologist.) Lena posted here because she seemed to need to vent a little or just talk about a very scary experiance that happened to her. I don't condone racial comments but I don't think this was the time or the place to have it out like you guys did. I hope you are feeling better Lena- I can not even piture how scary this experiance has been for you. Hang in there okay?

Well, I just got an update. Somehow this guy has disappeared into thin air, they can't find him anywhere. I guess the driver of the car tipped him off and he's gone.
The detectives said that the driver has been charged with robbery and will be in court in 2 months. Bet he is really ticked off at his buddy.
I asked if I will be able to go to the preliminary hearing and they told me no, not until it goes to trial. Helloooooooo
Maybe someway, somehow I can find out the date and get someone to go in and see what this guy looks like. They can point him out to me after court.
Hopefully he will do something less violent and get his sorry butt caught.

I'm sure they will catch this guy at some point. He's sure to do something stupid at some point.

Lena, I am sorry to learn of this development.

I'm thinking that maybe when push comes to shove, the driver is not going to want to do time by himself for something his buddy did.  Maybe he'll just give him up.

They know who he is.  They will get him eventually.  Engaging in the lifestyle he is, no doubt, engaging in, life will get him, if the cops don't get there first.
