Lena, when I was robbed I was working in the South for a debit insurance company. I collected those weekly premiums on the old policies and sold newer ones.....so I had a LOT of cash. My office was in an OK part of town, but I never left money there. I was going in on a Friday morning to do my weekly report and get the package sent off to the home office....when I unlocked the door, I was suddenly pushed from behind into the office and up against a wall. I gave the jerk the cash, and he took my purse, (luckily the wrong addy was on my drivers license) but he still felt the need to belt me in the face. I never went back to that office. The district manager came to town and packed everything up and we used my diningroom as the local office. And years LATER when I lived in that town again, I STILL got the willies driving down that street.
You feel violated. That's normal. You feel unsafe. That's normal. And I can't tell you how to get over it. What hit me the hardest was the day AFTER the robbery when the composite sketch showed up on the front page of the paper! And to READ the attack described as an ARMED ROBBERY!
I never felt unsafe in the poor areas of town that I worked. I never felt unsafe collecting large amounts of cash, but I felt unsafe in that office and I couldn't go back to it. And, I'm a tough old broad....was even 20 some years ago!
All I can offer are my prayers for PEACE and a feeling of security......you've got that!
