Wow, most of you have degrees. I'm 24 and am just beginning my college education. After high school, I tried community college for a while, but kept dropping out until I finally realized that I needed to just stop and go back when I was more focused. So that day has finally come. I'm going back to school this fall and am basically starting from scratch.

I currently work in the military healthcare field, handling all of the East Coast military families. It's very interesting and educating in certain ways in regards to the government. In the past, I've worked in other healthcare facilities, a restaurant (The Old Spaghetti Factory), call centers (Verizon Wireless, Gap Inc), and secretarial positions.

Wow, a lot of folks in the education field - I think that's great and teachers are finally beginning to get the pay and appreciation they deserve.  I work for an unique charter school as an admin coordinator (glorified admin asst [:)]).  We serve at-risk students and have 35 sites throughout California.  It's rewarding to see young people finally graduate with a diploma and some job skills.

I thought about becoming a Pharmacy Tech but my true passion is with animals, shure the pay is much less and I would not be given the same reconition a nurse or docter would get but I do it for the animals. They by far care more about me then any human ever would, and they don't talk back. My best friend from High School is a pharmacy tech and she already owns a house, was married now devorced and has her whole life set out for her, me on the other hand am no where close to where she is. So I guess if you can put up with that then it's totaly worth it.

I'm currently not working...and here's my life story, lol.

I was working for Child Protective Services.  It was a really difficult job with some really horrible side effects (i.e. insomnia, worry, guilt, etc.)  It's hard to see a lot of the things that I saw in my time there and not be effected by it.  I got into a situation where a supervisor wanted me to remove a child from it's mother and I could not establish that this child was in danger.  This supervisor has had a history of manipulating information regarding other staff members so that their jobs were on the line.  When she realized that I had some integrity and was not going to remove this child without seeing it first, she lied to my supervisor (who happens to be a good friend of hers) about my behavior in the case.  At this point I decided that the office I was working in was corrupt and decided to leave.  When I left I had almost 400 hours of overtime/leave time.  So, I'm enjoying a well earned vacation.

Before working for CPS, I worked in an emergency shelter for abused and neglected children.  It was an amazing job that I loved.  Had it paid more, I would have stayed there.  It's amazing the difference you can make in a child's life that the rest of the world labels a misfit or a delinquent.  It was as simple as sitting down with them and explaining their homework to them or taking the time to listen to what is really bothering them.  FYI: to all you teachers and those who deal with children, if a child has bad behavior, you can believe that there is some form of neglect or abuse behind it unless there is a diagnosed medical reason.  Growing up is hard, and it is made worse by people who won't help you out with it.

Anyways, I have had to re-evaluate my life and put my priorities in order.  I have decided to relocate to another state to be with my fiance, the one person in this world who can make me smile no matter what.  Our two year relationship almost ended when I was working for CPS as I put the job before him and before myself.  I am looking for work again with CPS in his state or in some other child related area such as juvenile probation.  I have always had a thing for the underdog.

I have a bachelor's degree in Sociology with a minor in Spanish.  I also have completed half of the courses for my master's in Gerontology.  I was inspired to choose this degree by my elders who were diagnosed with alzheimer's, arthritis, and everything else.  I'd like to someday work in continuing care  environment(i.e. progressive care facilities including independent, assisted, and nursing, also in specialized nursing).  I would also maybe like to help design products with the aging population in mind.  I do volunteer work with victims of violent crime as well.  Many people tell me that I should write a book about my experiences.  Maybe I will do this as well, who knows?

I do desktop computer support. I have been in the computer support field since high school. I have no real education and am stuck making a piss-ass salary where people with my experience are making 3x's as much as I do. It's my fault and I know it but seem to be too stuck in a rut to do anything about it. So whatever - I know I have no one to blame but myself.

Wow - Its neat to see what everyone does for a living!

I work as an office manager in a physiotherapy office.  I love doing admin stuff & love my job.  I would love to work in a Vet office, but I am really allergic to cats & would probably end up killing myself!

I am 24 years old and I am embarrassed to say that I actually never graduated from high school!  I was 2 credits short from graduating and have tried to go back but have been too busy!  (I do really want to graduate one day though).  I worked in a beauty salon as a receptionist for a few years after high school.  Then I went to a community college and got my Health Care Office Assistant certificate.  From there I started working as a Receptionist in Physiotherapy offices.... took a short break to work as a travel agent (hated it, too stressful), and then got my job as Office Manager!  I love my job!

I'm a full-time student working towards my PhD in psychology (behaviour analysis). I majored in zoology as well in undergrad- I was planning to do animal behaviour of some sort, but got waylaid (though somehow I've ended up studying animals anyway).
I'm on scholarship at the moment, so luckily I don't have to work much - the most I'm doing is taking 2nd year labs and doing some research.
I also volunteer for a child phone support service (that we're trying to set up after the original one got shut down)

I have worked in a few of different jobs though- I've worked in kennels/catteries, as a medical practice receptionist, volunteered at the zoo, as waitress at a pizza restaurant,  piano teacher, after school tutor.
