    Johnny Damon a Yankee????

Now, I may have been living a rock for the past year in terms of the Yankees because I am a born and raised Met's fans. I honestly had no idea that Johnny Damon traded to them. Have he no morals??? Have he no honor??? The only people that hate the Yankee's more than Met's fans are Red Sox fans and he traded to them.

Forgive me for not being up to date on that whole chestnut but I'm in shock. You'd think he'd stay with a team that has a sense of honor and tradition...Not to offend any yankee fans, of course. [;)]

    Anyone else have any opinions??

He wasn't traded.  His contract was up with Boston so he sold himself like a common hooker for the pieces of gold.  Judas.  Don't EVEN get me started.........

I'm on the players side.  Get as much money as you can while you're playing the game.  He won a world series with Boston and was at his highest value then and teh Yankees paid for it.  Good for Johnny, I would have done the exact same thing.

To a certain extent, I agree with that.  Professional athletes have a limited career as players, but the good ones stay in the sport in other capacities so it isn't as if their income producing days are over.

However, I think you MUST be a Red Sox fan to truely understand the rivalry and the almost hatred that BoSox fans have for those "damned" Yankees.  So Damon signing with them is a very real betrayal.

If I remember correctly, wasn't Johhny a very integral part of helping the BoSox win the World Series?? And I understand that his contract was up but come on, its almost a given that if you are a fan of the Sox and ESPECIALLY if you play for them , you hate the Yankees. How could he???
    • Gold Top Dog
Yes, he was a major factor in the World Series win.  And the glitter of gold must have blinded him to his loyalties...........

Waxen, if it were any other two teams - but to go from the WS winning Sox to the Yankees? You really have to experience the rivalry - IN Boston - to understand the sense of betrayal....

It must have been a very hard 5 games series for all you bosox fans...lol  [:D]

My wife converted my 3 kids over to the dark side a few years ago,and turned them into traitor boston fans..

I myself have been a YANKEE fan my whole life. Its been a good week to be on vacation..lol

The last time the YANKEES swept Boston in a 5 game series, they went on to win the World Series...Imagine Damon winning two rings with both the YANKEES and Boston?

     GO YANKS!

MhadDog, I'm in your wife's position - my SO is a born & raised Yanks fan. We don't have kids yet, but when the time comes we'll just have to see.... [;)]

Ya know i really shouldn't have looked at this forum cause now i'm gonna kick Mark's hiney when he gets home lol Ok now here is my position on this...
Johnny was i repeat was my favorite Red Sox player...I loved his attitude with the whole bunch of idiots that they called themselves..They were unshaven...long haired "real" guys who loved to play and worked together for years to finally break the terrible curse and win...They had fun doing it too....Now e1 knows that going to the yankees is treason....BUT if Johnny had not said over and over he never would go I could have found it in my heart to forgive him...However that was not the case...He stated so many times....I will never be a yankee....no matter what..yadda yadda...Then to go and leave just was horrible...Did he make a ton of money to go?? Yup he sure did..Was it worth losing all his true fans???? I don't think so....nor does any of his true fans...He did lose me as a fan...I don't respect someone who says they won't do something then sells out like that...If he hadn't said it and left then i would have felt hurt but would not hold a resentment towards him that i do now....Anyway unlike my husband those 5 games were awful....BUT we will overcome this :) If not this year than next... :) GO SOX!! Oh i think i hear Mark coming home...lol

I am a die hard Yankee fan and I LOVE Johnny Damon! I didn't hate him when he was a BoSox, just didn't care for him.

But the sox didn't put up a big fight to keep the guy, he was FA and the Yanks ante'd up, really can you blame him??

Theo Epstein LET Johnny go, blame him.

Red Sox fans do NOT concede defeat until the fat lady sings...finishes up and plops back down.  We didn't give up in Game 4 of the 2004 playoffs and look what they did.

That said, we have to look at the reality of the injury situation and try to be somewhat realistic about whether or not they'll be able to dig themselves out of the hole once everyone is healthy again.  But, give up?  Concede defeat?  Count the season as over?  Uh uh.  That fat lady hasn't even started warming UP to sing yet.
