My husband and I work in construction together, so I am around a lot of men.  What really annoys me, is when men swear, then look at me and say, "Pardon my language."
Either swear, or don't, but stop apologizing for it!!
      I don't give a f---! LOL

Several years ago my aunt and I were talking about how much we hate it when people say "Have a nice day," when they clearly don't mean it.  It's a reflexive thing.  We decided to respond somehow other than with the equally reflexive: "Thanks, you too."  So, when a cashier said "Have a nice day," we started saying, "No thanks.  I've got other plans."  [:D

One thing I'm noticing about myself, and it really bugs me, is that I pick up irritating phrases very easily after being around people for a while.  Most recently, I've heard myself saying "absolutely" a million times a day.  Not in a sentence, just by itself, instead of "yes."   Everyone in my office says it, and now I've picked it up.  I'm really annoyed that I'm now using it all the time.

People around here used to say "beaucoup" a lot... wait Im being way to correct here, "boo koo"

Sometimes used slightly correct but still annoying: "They got bookoo stuff in that store"

Amy, you may already be aware of this but the term "boo-coo" was brought back to the US by servicemen returning from Vietnam.  It is indeed a mispronunciation of the French word "beaucoup", but "boo-coo" was how the Vietnamese pronounced it and that term and pronunciation was picked up by the US servicemen over there.  I joined the Army right at the end of the Vietnam war and all of the men I worked with frequently infused Vietnamese words and terms into their speech.  Even though I was never in Vietnam myself, I ;picked up a lot of the terminology from my fellow soldiers.  Even now, over 30 years later, I still catch myself saying "boo-coo" on occasion, as well as "Di Di Mau" (let's leave fast).[8|]

lol... nope I didnt know that.  Its not the word.... just how very incorrectly it is often used lol.  That girls hair is bookoo ugly...  that sort of thing.  Being used by teenage thugs... who have no idea where the word came from, that its a french word, that theyre not saying it right, or what it really means probably, lol.  I hate the whole thug style.  They way they talk and everything... people of all ethnicities around here are just "thugs"...  its just sad to see them all wanting to be bad, I dont get it.

ROTFL... my friends and I used to say a lot of these things when we were in high school.  "like", "bookoo", and many others I'm sure.  I have since tried to clean up my language because it does bother me.  When other people misuse words or don't use correct grammar, I think of them as being less educated.  I know that's not fair, but it's the truth.  I obviously don't snub them because of it, but it doesn't change the impression.

Where I live there are very educated individuals (college town) and the "hicks".  I "ain't" gonna go there.  I dunno.  How y'all doin'?  etc, etc.. and at my last job, I found myself using words that they used.  "Hick" talk as I call it.  That slang, slurred words, etc.  So I made a conscious effort to not speak like them.

It was harder to prevent myself from correcting them though... tee he...

    OK, I've got a few:

"Do me a favor ...".   My ex used to say that all the time - to friends, bartenders, servers, anyone.  "Do me a favor, get me another beer."  No, they'll get that beer because you're paying for it, not as a favor.

Using f*** as an adjective ... and meaning it in a nice way!

Repeating words, like actually, in a sentence.  I've actually caught myself doing this a few times, and actually went back to delete it because it bothered me.  [;)]  But it felt right at the time!

And the best is my mom.  "I'm not being critical, but ..." then says something critical.  I guess since she prefaced with "I'm not being critical" she has the freedom to insult people however she wants.  And to her this really does make it okay!  [8|]

I moved to coastal Georgia, from Long Island NY about 2 years ago and still cannot stand some phrases.

    "I'm fixin' to..."

    "Mash the button"

    "Cut on the ..."

    and

    "y'all"

But I am sure being from Long Island people hate the way I talk as well.
