Scout meets horses and other Dogpark dogs

Last Saturday I took Scout to the dogpark.  He was just running around as usual. When he took off down the hill in the field.  I look closer and there are two horses grazing. Thier owners just hanging out making sure they're cooling down.  I thought to myself, oh crap, Scout's never met a horse. So I called him to me. He came most reluctantly.  When he return I walked over with him. The owners were really nice and awesome about all the dogs checking out the horses.  The horses are older and really the most well behaved horses when nosey dogs are checking them out, sniffing them and sometime barking at them.  Scout creeped up slowly to the first one. Eyes as big as saucers. Sniff, sniff, jump back....sniff, sniff, jump back.  Then one of the horses blew air out of thier lips.  Scout acted like a cannon went off and jumped really far back while ducking ~_~@
He did really well with this introduction.  Then he realized, hey I've greeted him politely with my sniffing, why hasn't he even acknoweledged me. He must be really cool and therefore must play with me. At which point Scout started doing his playbow, barking and attempted to hop in and do this mouthy thing he does with dogs when he wants them to play(basically he slobbers on their ears).  Obviously I stopped him from doing that.
    He listened really well.

    What IS that?

    Hmm, and another one!

I'll just get in a little closer

Hmm...horses are too cool to play with me. Maybe if I act like one then they'll think I'm cool too. So I'll just graze along beside them!

The three of us and Scout being such a good boy(excuse my fuzzy head and general unkempt appearance...it was saturday and HOT)!

    Horsey smile!

Ridgie REALLY wanted to play with this horse. I think he thought it was another ridgie. They were the exact same color!

The aussie did NOT want to play with the horse and the golden couldn't care less about the horse!

And this sweet boy a dogo argentino was really cute!
Only 9 months and as big as Scout!

Oh and when the people who owned the horses were done letting them graze they saddled them up. I stuck around so Scout could watch the process and not freak out when all the sudden the human is strangely projecting out of the horse.  When they were set to take off we gave them room. And what does Scout do as they start trotting across the field: Scout decides he's going ride with the HORSES like its a rite of passage. I let him follow across the field knowing that he doesn't really ever go that far from me.  But this was different, I really think he wanted to ride with the horses.  Luckily he has a great recall and I was able to call him back from about 200 meters away. I was really proud of him and this whole experience!

Great photos! Scout is the best! So funny, I could so picture him doing the 'What the heck are these big things!' cautious approach and the huge jump back when the horse snorted. LOL made me laugh and I wasn't even there! but then.. then you posted the dogo photos and totally made my night! [:D]

Awesome photos!  I always get a kick out of dogs when they first come upon a creature that they know is a different species.  That whole "I want to check it out, but not get too close, appear friendly, but cool at the same time" thing is so funny.  I remember when Tonka saw a turtle once, he was fascinated!  He never met a horse.

What a nice gentleman, Scout!  You showed wonderful manners!

Great pics, scout is such a great dog.  My neighbor rode her horse into our yard one day and Natchez almost did a back flip trying to get away he was scared of it.  He's just a big baby.

Kota and Tasha are the only ones of ours that have met horses.  Kota barks at them but then trys to help them eat their grain.  [8|]

Tasha walked into Patty's stall once, she was laying down, and sniffed noses with her.  When she stood up, Tasha backed out of the stall quick!  lol..  I think Tasha would be a great trail dog but not Kota.  He barks at them too much.

I LOVE that first pic of Scout!  he looks so shiny and neat!!!
