That is so great that you guys have decided to keep him. It looks like HE picked YOU! lol

I would suggest, though, trying very hard to convince mom to let him be an inside dog.  It really is better for them, and then they can have tons of socialization and love with you!  It will be so great for everyone involved!

If he is indeed a pit or pit mix, it is incredibly important for them to be a part of the family.  Puppy age is crucial for proper socialization.

i want him to be an inside dog soo bad i cant stand it, but there will be no one to really watch him... i mean i know i have bogart, but he is a handfull in the first palce. my mom and dad work full time as well as tend to my grand mother who has cancer who lives with us so they can not help he help him.. my sister would be the better candidate, BUT she dosent like dogs as much as me [haha i dont think anyone in my family does] so she may not be the one.. i say she is the better candidate because she comes home and could tend to him, but like me i go to college and work so i mean i do have time.. but not enough.. i feel like i am sounding selfish, but i think it is better to keep him and get him health then to just forget about him and let him starve and everything else. we have a pretty big yard and live somewhat in the country so i think he is like it alright. well i hope i am doing the right thing...

Hm, I would urge you to reconsider... maybe hang on to him while you look for a home where he could be an inside dog? As Alieliza said, puppy socialization is so important - I'm not a big fan of "outside dog" care anyway but on top of that I really think this pup is too young for it.... ??

    I agree with Jones.
It is admirable for you to want to keep him and give him a good home, but it would really be best for him to be an inside dog.  It is safer for them, better for socialization, temperament, etc.

    :[ i guess y'all are right
    • Gold Top Dog
Thats great that you are taking care of him....
But how is he gonna be loved when his buddy (Bogart) gets to come inside and he stays outside? Also, you have to consider bad weather. Dogs should not be outside in cold/hot/rainy weather.
If no one in your family wants him in the house, you may consider giving him to a home that has the time and space to take the best care of him.

:[ i know... im already attached hahaha. but i know i need to do what is best for him :[

As I said in my email... let me know if you decide to give him up.  Im not positive, but I can possibly work something out to get him from you.

It breaks my heart to think of him outside, especially with another inside dog.  Even without that factor though, it would still be sad.

hey i got the email, but it was blank.. so haha id ont know i am calling all of the animal shelters and rescues in my area, but they all are not answering. :[

Are you going to give him up because he can't stay inside?  Personally, I think that's silly.  No, it's not ideal for him to be an outdoor dog, but at least he has a home with you.  That's better than him being stuck in a shelter or on the side of a busy highway.  And if you do take him to a shelter, what if someone adopts him and keeps him as an outside dog?  You'll be gaining nothing ...

it's not silly to want to find a new home for the pup. The OP has 2 other dogs which get to go inside, but for some reason this lovely pup cant be inside with his buddies. Now I dont say dump him in a shelter, but to try to find a good home through family or friends where he can be an inside dog, and properly socialized.

Its not fair to anyone that the other dogs get to be inside while he has to stay outside

I'm aware of this.  My point is that she can still keep the dog, even if he's outside.  At least she can love him and give him a good life.  What if someone adopts him and then uses a tie-out for him outside?  The pretty picture becomes a bit hazy.  I'm just saying that everything should not come to end over the dog not being allowed inside.  There are ways to work around it.

ETA: No, it's not fair that two can stay inside and one has to stay outside.  But it's also not fair to completely take this dog away from an evironment with which he's become comfortable, just because he cannot come inside.

I am putting on my flame suit..

I personally dont believe "outside dogs" are nessesarly bad. There is a woman who I work with who has 2 Huskys. She is the absolute best "dog mommy" in the world. Her dogs are spoiled beyond belief, they are well trained, well fed and weel behaved. She spends lots & lots of time with her dogs but they are outside only dogs. They have their own heated/air conditioned shed with windows & of course a doggy door. They have a huge pool to swim in and the dogs most of all get lots of love and attention from the entire family.

I was talking to a fellow rescuer about this and I cant help but agree that as long as the dog gets attention from his people, and has an extraordinary set up to go in when it gets hot/cold, I see no reason why a dog cant be an outside dog. I understand they need to be with their "pack", but I have met inside dogs who are the lonliest, saddest dogs ever.

I personally have been letting my dogs spend most of their time outside, they stay in the house in crates at night & get an hour of house time during the day. It is nice outside and I spend most of my afternoons out there playing with them, so there is no need for us to be inside on a beautiful day. My dogs have always been indoor/outdoor (free to come & go as they please) dogs, and my youngest two Marley & Nico WANT to be outside and will sometimes stand by the door until you let them out.

Of course chaining a dog & leaving it outside is a completly different thing, I cant stand people who do that and in that case to me there is no point owning the dog, but if the owner is willing to spend the majority of his/her time outside with the dog & provide some air conditioning/heating for the rough months I see absolutly no reason why the dog wouldnt be okay outside.

I grew up having inside/outside dogs (dogs that got to come & go in and out as they please) which is why I have always believed dogs should be allowed to come inside but some of the points that have been made to make about outside dogs also make sense.

MRS-as long as you are willing to spend massive amounts of time with Tip (for the rest of his life while he is outside), I personally see nothing wrong with her being an outdoor dog. Perhaps you could train him to be very well behaved then show your mom & she might let him start staying inside. ?? I WOULD NOT call the city run animal shelters, if he is part pit he will most likely be euthanized within the week. Even at a no kill he could sit in a cage for months or years. You arent going to find a good place for him because there are SO very many pits in the shelters as is. I suggest you take loveukaykay up on her offer if she is willing to take him.

He is a cutie as are all of your dogs. Good luck with him & condgradulations.

You won't be flamed by me.  I know people with very happy outside dogs.  Roxie loves going outside sometimes, too, but it just depends on her mood.  I've met indoor dogs that seem miserable, too.

Unless someone owns a Pomeranian or Yorkie (or other small dog), I wouldn't tell them to keep a dog indoors.

Im not against people having outside dogs. My moms Golden is a mostly outside dog and she is happy.

What I dont think is right is to have two other dogs who are allowed inside and for some strange reason this pup isnt.

Im sure if the OP looks for a nice family they can find one where the dog will be pampered and not segregated from other dogs.

IMO if one can be inside, they can ALL be inside. You wouldnt give a child a special toy/treat and leave the other child to watch. I know dogs arent children but its basically the same thing
