    9-8-14 weekly chat

Busy, busy, busy. Why is it that my work never gets done when I'm not here? Stupid office gremlins.

The weekend weather was beautiful. I finally painted one of my bedrooms - it looks so nice, I should have done it years ago. It will need another coat, but what an improvement.

Jackie, your trip to see the Lego sculptures sounded like it was fun. Did you take any pictures?

    Back to the grind. TTFN

Sticky! Busy day. I got sunburn this weekend.

    That's about all for now!

    • Gold Top Dog

Saturday was brutally hot, but since then.....HEAVEN!!

Busy as heck and this is my first break all day.  Had PT, had to pick up films for my IME next week (independent medical evaluation), DS had a job interview (PLEASE!!!!!!!!)  and then I had to get right down to work.  Even iced while I worked.

So, apparently word has spread because now we have a pair of chickadees raiding the peanuts as well.  They are the cutest darned little birds!  Can barely carry one, unshelled nut in their tiny little beaks.  Guess I'm going to have to buy some birdfeeders for the winter.

Back to work.  Hope everyone is having a good day, and Kaitlin, I hope that sunburn isn't too uncomfortable.

Tina, I did take some pictures. I'll see if I can post some when I get home, if I don't forget. Mine  aren't as good as the ones on the botanical garden site. :)

Glad you got one of your bedrooms painted. We need to paint the entire house inside. Can't wait. :( The kitchen redo is already hitting snags. The stone guy is supposed to come out Friday to measure. This whole process seems to be dragging out so slowly. It will be December at this rate before things get rolling. DH has gotten all DYI on me. He's been changing light fixtures and plugs and switches. Scary.

Kait, I hate being sunburned. Hope yours is better soon.

We had an inch of rain in a short rain shower yesterday. Welcome relief to all the crispy plants around here. My sis in Phoenix couldn't get to work due to flooding from the big rains they had. They broke a 44 year old record.

Yesterday I felt terrible for most of the afternoon and evening.  Today I feel fine. Glad whatever it was came and went suddenly.

Thanks all! It is pretty bad but it's the first time I have been burned all year. Can't complain too much about it! :)

Sunburns - ouch!  Get some aloe lotion, Kait!

Doug, I see that winery has "wood fired cuisine."  If that includes pizza, then I'd be there often if I were you!

Glenda, chickadees are very cute.  Your yard's reputation as a fine eatery is getting out there on the wildlife version of Yelp.com!

Julie, I find when when I'm in a meeting with a group of adults, I can often guess what kind of "role" a person had when they were in high school -- the clique-y types, the bossy ones, the quiet ones, etc.  Dynamics don't change all that much for some people as we age.

DH was helping a friend chop wood over the weekend and during one swing of the axe, he heard a "noise" (ugh) and felt something in his arm/shoulder.  The amount of bruising in his bicep area is scary looking.  He went to urgent care, and they're referring him to an orthopedic doctor this week.  It's not a bicep tear, as he can lift/curl his arm with no pain.  But to wind his watch is excruciating -- any fine motor activity like that.  And it's his right arm, so he's upset it may be bad news if surgery or something is needed.

Given his arm issue, the poor guy was very uncomfortable at my boss's Celebration of Life service yesterday -- every time he had to shake a hand, he winced.  Other than that, it was a very nice service.  Probably 350 people or so were there.  It was hard to be too sad when hearing what a truly happy and fulfilled life she lived, with so many amazing experiences and memories, but when her husband got choked up talking about her, I had to pull out a tissue.  They met in high school and have been together nearly 60 years since.  Long marriages are rare -- but genuinely happy ones, with obvious love still there is almost extinct, in my experience.  And they were clearly best friends and still in love.  He will be lost without her.  It was nice to see so many people hugging him.  It'll be hard now when things settle down and people aren't calling and visiting as much.

Tracy, I'm sorry to hear about your hubby's arm injury. Hope whatever happened is not serious.  The service sounds like it was very moving and uplifting.

Belle goes in for some blood work today. She'll go to work with me and Gabby. Gabby will be thrilled to have her BFF at the office. :)

Tracy sorry about your DH sounds like a rotar cuff tear. After I did mine i could not even use a can opener because of the pain when turning it.  Right after i tore the rotar cuff i did tear my bicep also.  I had nothing done to either, I prefer no operations at my age and they both have now healed on there own.  Off today today Shamokin, Pa to see Tony's Mother who is 90 and his Sister and out for lunch with them.  Have a great day everyone.

Just what I need.....more critters making a mess on the deck!  If they weren't so darned cute......

Tracy, sorry to hear about your DH's injury.  Not using it is probably the worst thing he can do.  I suspect much of the issue with my shoulder was that I got put in a sling and told to use it until the ortho said otherwise.  He never did.  My physical therapist, after two months told me to lose the darned thing.  That said, I hope he gets in to see someone pronto.  Too often these things don't go away without help.

Wow Tracy! So sorry to read about your husband's injury. Sending good vibes your way! Also, I am getting all watery eyed over here  reading about your boss. The relationship that she had with her husband sounds beautiful!

Jackie, is Belle's bloodwork to help diagnose her tummy troubles?  I hope everything comes back normal.

Glenda, fortunately (or unfortunately, sometimes), DH is one of those guys who still has to try to do things with an injury, so he has used his arm more than I made it sound.  He keeps moving it in all these different ways, trying to find where/when it hurts the most.  Interestingly enough, one thing that really hurts is if he tries to tighten his pec muscle on that side.  The pain is slightly better, but he's icing it as often as he can.  If the ortho doc doesn't call by tomorrow, the regular doc said to let him know, because he said the same thing about getting it addressed ASAP.

About my bosses' long happy marriage:  the husband said they'd never had a fight in all those years.  If anyone else said that, I wouldn't believe them, but given how easy-going both of them are, I'm sure it's true.  We car-pooled to the service with another couple we know, and we were marveling on the way home over that fact.  I said to DH, "Gee, I'm not sure we can go 48 hours without arguing about something, can we?!"  One thing the husband said which is key -- he said his wife did the planning/deciding for all the family and household things, and he just "tagged along" because she knew what was best for all of them.  My friend and I told our DH's in the car:  "We think you need to adopt his philosophy!  Why do you have to have opinions on everything?"  Big Smile

Don't get me wrong -- he's an involved, active, loving Dad and Grandpa -- and he's loads of fun.  But he knew his wife was more skilled in running the show!  Wink

My coworker made a coffee cake today -- it has apples and cinnamon in it.  So moist, and crazy delicious!

I can't imagine DH not having an opinion about something. I'd like to be able to say we never argue but I'd be lying.  lol

Belle was having blood work to re check her thyroid. She started supplements a few months ago.  She also had a complete CBC when she was vomiting. They wanted to recheck that too.  The vomiting and diarrhea have stopped since I switched her dry food to the same fat ratio (10%) as the prescription dog food she was eating per vet's orders. Hopefully this will be the end of all that tummy upset for her. She's snoozing now. I was going to take her home but ran out of time. Gabby thinks it's super cool to have Belle here. :)

Glad to hear that Belle's belly is happier.  Sounds like the food switch was a good plan!

Thought I'd share something incredibly stupid I did last night.  My friend and I went to a yoga class, and when we left the studio, I grabbed my keys, my bag, and put my glasses on as we headed out to the car.  I dropped my friend off at her house, then headed home.  It wasn't until I parked my car and took off my glasses that I realized I was wearing my SUNglasses -- at 8:30pm, in the dark (it was sunny when we drove to class).  I kept thinking while driving that I must have a headlight out because the road seemed quite dark.  I even said that to my friend at one point.

So, I emailed my friend when I got home, saying I didn't wear them on purpose, in case she was wondering why I had them on, I just have early dementia.  Her reply made the whole thing even funnier.  She said:  "Ha!  I didn't even notice you had them on!"  OK, so we're both airheads, I guess.  Tongue Tied

I'm also glad to hear Belle's tummy is better. Are you still taking her to Nose Work class, Jackie?

Tracy, I can only imagine how much your DH's arm hurts.

Vivian, I hope you had a nice day out with your MIL.

Today is supposed to be a day of severe weather - we'll see. The TV stations tend to blow things out of proportion. I know that might surprise some of you. Hmm

Been buried in work, must get back to the pile.

Hi all!  I got back from vacation last Thursday and the office has been so crazy that I finally just decided I needed to stop and say Hi.

I haven't had a chance to check on everyone I hope all is well.

I have been scheduled for my Hip replacement.  It will be Sept. 22 very early in the morning.  I will be in the hospital for 1-2 days and out of work for 4-6 weeks.  I am hoping for the least amount of time on both counts.

Well I started this an hour ago :) now it is lunch time.  I will drop by again soon.   BTW just after I got the word about my surgery a co-worker was diagnosed with Breast Cancer.  Please keep her in your prayers and thoughts, her surgery is the 16th.
