    Wednesday chat

Today is going to be an all cap hell day.  Shortly we go to pick up the moving truck and try to get everything done in a matter of hours.  We've had issues getting utilities turned on and still have no gas at this point.  The guy came out, did what he had to do, and was good enough to leave the gas on long enough for the hot water to come up, but, since the electric company didn't come until after 5 and only then after a call to the supervisor (the apt was 8-4), he locked the meter again and said he'll come back as soon as the power was on.....by which point all we got was the recording.  We can always come back here to shower, so we aren't totally screwed up, but since todays high will be mid-40's with rain, heat might come in handy.  Will call right at 8 to try to get a shorter window apt set for this morning.

The people who had moved out of the house two weeks ago, at some point on Sunday night finally finished getting all their stuff out.  They did a commendable job of cleaning up considering 4 young and loud children running in and out and generally imitating wild heathens, and of course, no electricity, but.......there is clean and then there is my clean. And gosh, who moves out of a house and leaves it full of stuff that doesn't need to go in a truck for TWO weeks?   DS spent the day waiting for utility people to show up and did a good deal of cleaning and putting away of stuff while he was there.

So the weekend plan to move a lot of little stuff to the attic and basement got shot to heck, then of course with no power we couldn't do much after dark on Monday.  We've been carrying hot water from here to use there.......just too much fun.  We've actually got through Friday to get stuff done, but Friday is my insanely busy day so basically, just today and tomorrow.

But, we'll get through it.  I'd ask for someone to pass the cheese to go with my whine, but.......

I will be very glad when this move is over!

They were saying that the bad storms were supposed to move into GA yesterday, but I've not heard anything.  Sure hope that everyone is ok.  Soooooo glad to know that GingerP is fine.

As badly as I'd like to go curl back up in bed, need to be off and running.  Wishing everyone a GREAT day!

Good luck with the move, Glenda.

What the heck is with all the posts from 2007 suddenly showing up?

Not much excitement here yet. Seems hard to believe today is the last day of April.

Happy Day or Sad Day, it's a little of both.  Today is the last day at our current location and in a few hours it 's gonna get crazy :)  I have enjoyed it here, I am a little nervous and excited about learning some new stuff.    Gotta run!  Watch out for storms and stay safe in the flood areas.  Glenda good luck with your move.  Its 40 here high is 56 :)  I would say your gonna need your heat.:)

Oh no, not something else @sharismom! It's ok, it's just reindexing old pages because we've made changes to the site. I could've said we were doing a best of clip show, but nah.  We'd like to start cleaning house with some of the older posts anyway. What do you guys think about that? Jonathan

I think it would be a good idea. It's nice to search for a reference when we need it, but we really only need to go so far back, IMHO. I've recently tried to find a post from the old format, but the link didn't work. No big deal, I found what I needed elsewhere.

    ~~Waves to GingerP~~

    Good luck moving Glenda.

Good luck to you too on your office move, Ginger.  I hope it goes smoothly or as smooth as possible.  I remember when we moved into this building.  Oh, that was a pain in the butt.

Nice weather here today.  It's still very low humidity which is good for not feeling the heat so much but bad because of the high fire danger.

I don't usually search for old posts on this site.  Doesn't matter to me if they are available or not.   It's weird to see the old ones that are popping up.  I keep clicking on them and then realize they're years old. lol

I typed out a long story about something that allegedly happened at a Fort Worth Texas veterinary clinic.  It's so disturbing and upsetting that I decided to delete it.  Can't get it off my mind though.

I hope all the moving goes well, that's never fun.

It is rainy here.  I put out more grass seed this morning, but I'm not holding my breath.  I put some down a week ago and no luck.  I think the seed might be too old, plus not enough water last time.

Jackie, that story is so upsetting, I just can't/don't want to believe it.  Just awful.

JBradshaw posted that the log in should be fixed.  I hope so.  There have been times lately that I've thought about posting/commenting but whatever I have to say never seems worth the effort to log in.  (which is somewhat on me for not having anything really worthwhile to say Wink )

I am another one who hopes the log in works, I have not logged in for ages, just read the posts. I broke my wrist in March from a fall so could only type with one hand, now can type at least with two. :)  Good luck with your move Glenda, hope it does not rain for you.  It has been raining here solid for two days now.

Vivian, sorry to hear about your broken wrist.  I'm glad you're healed up.  I too hope the log in problem is fixed.  Send some of that rain to Texas.

Steph, this is mindless chat. lol  I do know what you mean though.   I never have very exciting news. Good luck with your grass seed.  Maybe the rains will make a difference if it doesn't wash it away.

I have the office to myself today.  I should be working harder without the constant interruptions but instead I'm wasting time on the internet.

All is fine here in this part of GA.  We had rain and winds, a few thunderboomers, but that is about it.

This has been a couple weeks from H***!  My 91 yr MIL from VT arrived Wed  after a visit with family in TN, where she managed to pick up a stomach bug from one of the kids.   This poor woman felt horrible.  She didn't eat more than a couple bites nor drink much, but she never does in spite of being told to.  Finally on Fri nite I took her to urgent care, where she got Flagyll and something else for diarreah.  Sat she was tossing everything including meds, so I took her to ER.  There, she told them her chest has been hurting for a month (she has a pacemaker), but she didn't tell anyone.  They admitted her right away, and there she has been.  She is feeling better, and I thought I was taking her home yesterday, but something else cropped up.  A lot of this has been apparently caused by dehydration.  I had an appt this morning, so I am about ready to head back and see what's up.  So far, she hasn't gotten to see her great grandchildren, which was the whole reason for the visit!    Add that to the fact that at my ripe age, I have a wisdom tooth that needs to come out...blech!

Well, I don't know if it's just a coincidence or if that log-in fix really is making a difference, but to hear from Vivian, Stephanie and Marty this morning was a nice surprise, so I hope this means we'll see some more iDog friends popping in!

Vivian, I'm sorry to hear about your wrist - what a hassle to only have use of one hand!  Marty, I hope your MIL improves and that your wisdom tooth extraction goes well.  I had mine pulled when I was in college; can't imagine going through it now!

Sending good moving vibes to Glenda and to GingerP.  Whether it's a home or an office move, the stress is HIGH, so if we see any blue air coming from your locations, we'll understand if any cursing is going on!  Wink

Jonathan, I saw your other announcement thread about deleting old content.  Like others said, I don't go back and search through old stuff either.  And when those old threads pop up, looking like new ones, all that does is make me feel sad to see all the usernames/avatars of so many former members I miss hearing from.  All I care about is the 2006 thread about Tonka's passing and all the lovely responses of support I got, but I printed that years ago and keep it with the cards and things we received back then.

We're due to reach high 80's today.  That's not a temp we see very often except in August, so it's very odd.  I have sandals on.  My poor toes haven't seen the light of day since last September!

Thanks very useful feedback, thanks @tacran. We'll be as sensitive as we can. There's a legacy here that we're keen to retain if we can. All the best, Jonathan

Jackie, you mentioned an upsetting story that is sticking with you.  I know just what you mean, and when I come across those, sometimes I wish I could "unhear" or "unread" them.  Just now I saw a pretty cool update about an adoption from our local shelter, so if I can do the cut and paste thing correctly, I'll include it below so you all can read a "feel good" story.  Funny, the dog's name is Doc (as in Department of Corrections)!

"Doc is a Border Collie adopted by the Oregon Department of Corrections from the humane society on December 20, 2013 for a unique public safety and sanitation assignment. Doc is the new Wildlife Management Canine tasked to help manage the large Canadian geese population that routinely rests on the recreation yard (leaving large amounts of feces). The facility is an 890 bed, male- medium security facility located in Salem, Oregon. Since Doc is a border collie, we were fairly certain he would enjoy his new job assignment, but we were unsure how he would respond to such a large population of humans. He immediately approached each and every individual he met with a “Hi, I’m home” attitude. Of course, the population and staff fell in love with this incredible creature.

The adults in custody who are responsible for his daily care and training, and the population that gets to interact with him on a daily basis, report that Doc is a happy, healthy dog who brings out the soft side in people. According to them, he allows the adults in custody to feel and express affection, something that can be difficult to practice in our environment. Doc’s favorite activities are spending time with his pack of humans, chasing geese off the yard, working his obstacle course in the greenhouse, and playing tug of war with his numerous toys. The adults in custody population and staff at Oregon State Correctional Institution thank the humane society for this welcome addition to our facility!"

Tracy, that's a super nice adoption story.  Doc sounds like he found the perfect place.  Thanks for sharing and it makes me glad I didn't share the other story.  We all see and hear enough bad news as it is.

Marty, your poor MIL and poor you too with needing a wisdom tooth out.  Glad to hear you didn't have any storm damage.

Gabby is desperately trying to convince me that she needs some of my sandwich.  She knows she'll get some of the crust when I finish eating and she's trying to make me hurry up. :)

Tracy, that's a nice story about Doc. When I read or hear stories such as the one Jackie mentioned, I lose a little more faith in humanity. Doc's story brings it back a bit.

I'm struggling with the story of the pittie who mauled the  4 year old boy being "saved" by Sheriff Joe Arpaio. Not sure it's best for the dog.
