    Veterans Day chat

Thanks to all the veterans and their families for their service and sacrifice.

    • Gold Top Dog

Yes, I'm thinking of all the veterans that have earned our thanks and appreciation today.

BIL looked at the wall I was worried about and agreed it didn't need to be scraped clean. He actually thinks all 3 walls will need to be retextured but I've still got a lot of work to do. He'll help DH with the job and he's amazingly talented, so I'm thankful for his help.

As they were leaving, my SIL said "see ya next Sunday". She and I are signed up for a wine tasting/paint a picture event at a local winery but I thought it was Saturday. I'd signed up to help with Santa photos at HB on Sunday. So, I email the coordinator and said I could work Saturday instead and apologized for my confusion. A few min's later, I realized DH is working Saturday and I can't take Shane with me, so I had to email her again. I again apologized profusely for being such an idiot and offered to work a few hours Sunday morning. I spent the rest of the evening beating myself up and feeling awful. She emailed me back this morning and said it wasn't a big deal and not to worry. I've made a commitment to myself to start using my pocket calendar and checking it before I agree to anything from now on. I used to write everything in there but have gotten to be slack about it and with my mush for brains, I need to utilize it more than ever.

I'm off to the grocery store soon and then back home to work on the wallpaper. I'm planning to spend a good part of this gorgeous day outside though.

I've got a couple of those walls with wallpaper, too. One of them, I pulled part down because it was torn and curling, so now I have a fuzzy area. I dread dealing with it. The other is painted over, so I don't know what to do. Bleh.

Am at work today and up to my eyeballs in crap, so I'd best get back to digging out.

My thoughts and prayers to the Veterans and their families that are currently serving.  My heartfelt thanks to those that have gone before.

This crazy weather, cold then hot, then wet then dry... My Fibro is in a tailspin, lol.  Suppose to have a hard freeze tonight after yesterdays 70 degree temp.

Yesterday, I gave new life to an ugly old wood/laminate end table.  It works perfectly for my hubbys "stuff" next to his chair.  I figured it couldn't look worse, right?  I am really happy with how it turned out.  It was all of $2.50.  I picked up a quart of Valspar on the  Lowe's sale table for 2.50 and in one afternoon  ta-da...new table.

I love it when things come together like that.  I had a million and 1 other things to do but this sounded more fun.

my brain went to babies when you said "I gave new life to an ugly..." wait, what?  Oh!  NOT a baby!

Don't ask me where my brain is.  I think I need coffee.

Gracie and I are chilling out.  I have the day off and intended to go to my storage unit to do some clearing/cleaning out.  But instead I am snuggling with my girl because she was not feeling well earlier.  Just shivering probably from pain/soreness because she ran like a madwoman around the yard yesterday.  Oh, and rolled in a dead toad.  So she got the first bath in a few years.  She stunk so bad, she was NOT laying on furniture all stinky and sticky like that!  Silly lady!

    • Gold Top Dog

LOL, Paige.....  yes I think you may need some coffee.  Gracie, dont you know sweet girls like you are not supposed to roll in stinky dead stuff?   That's what those nasty boy dogs do.  Kinda sounds like it worked tho cause now you and Mom are just chillin Wink

ETA: Tina arent you supposed to be off today?  It is my opinion that all veteran's should have the day off and the rest of us can take up the slack.

DEB what is the special for  Veteran's Day?

    • Gold Top Dog

    @shadowsgin
It is my opinion that all veteran's should have the day off and the rest of us can take up the slack.

Ginger, my DH would agree with you . . . we were just saying this morning that he's never had a job/employer who recognized Veteran's Day as a paid holiday (or even unpaid), so despite being a veteran, he's never had the day off!  He and some friends who are also veterans have been exchanging texts of appreciation to each other, so they're observing it in their own way.  :-)

Gracie, I'm sure your Mom used some special shampoo that makes you smell nice and pretty, even though I bet you just loved wearing your Eau de Dead Toad perfume!

Cathy, people make fun of me all the time because I still use a pocket monthly calendar that I keep in my purse.  They think it's weird I maintain my schedule that way instead of a calendar app on a smartphone or something more high-tech.  I cannot live without my pocket calendar.  Well, I could live, but I would be wandering around aimlessly everyday, not knowing where I should be at what time.  Tongue Tied  But I've had a few times when I've missed an appointment for something, even when it's written in my calendar, so sometimes mushy middle-aged brain is beyond the help of even pen and paper!!

Houseguests left this morning -- fun weekend, but it's only Monday, and I feel behind since I didn't do any of my usual Sat/Sun tasks.  It was super foggy this AM, but it's burning off and we're seeing some sun, which is incredibly nice!

I agree that Veterans should get the day off.  I think we only happen to have this day off because my boss' son (who is also an employee) is a veteran.

Yes, Gracie is sort of enjoying the day off with mom.  Although, I just ran the vacuum around my room and she did not appreciate that.  I gave her some pumpkin muffin since Macie tried to come in and steal it, yet Gracie politely ignored it.  She's is such a sweet girl.

So, how are you guys feeling about the forum?  I am still disoriented to the tiles and what weird old stuff floats up to the top.  I know they are working on things to be better.  I've been wondering if newbies have been able to navigate and could teach us a thing or two. lol

PS- where is Callie??  Is she normally this quiet on a Monday?

    • Gold Top Dog

    @miranadobe
So, how are you guys feeling about the forum?

I am not sure that I am that good about getting around but since I dont FB how else would I be able to keep up with everyone.   I will just hang in til they get it all figured out.

    Callie???Where are you????Stick out tongue

    • Gold Top Dog

Absolutely thinking of the Veterans today and thanking them for their service.

We have HEAT again!!!!  Apparently the boiler was over filled, and how the heck that happened is anyones guess.  They (the repair guys) have to come back and do a full service, but at least we've got heat again.  Made the mistake of emailing my landlord instead of calling him so it was a mighty chilly weekend!  Not so bad for me, and we do have spaceheaters, but the guys get colder than I do and THEY were freezing!

Paige, I don't like having to sign in constantly, and the cloud background drives me batty and makes stuff harder to see....old eyes  There are a number of other things I could pick on, but I think they are trying.  I just wish Jonathon would check in a bit more regularly with updates.  Oh, and I've still got those stupid blue boxes that look empty until I put my nose to the monitor!

I was thinking on Friday that we hadn't heard from Callie all week, I think.  Hopefully she hasn't had a set-back with her health.

While I can manage to find the daily chat and read/post relatively okay, I definitely don't like the new format.  I don't use Facebook, Twitter, or other social media things like that, so I'm not comfortable with lots of graphics everywhere, sidebars, colors, symbols, etc.  It's not intuitive to me -- I prefer simple, basic layouts that are easy on the eye.  I prefer sharing and gathering information in a more linear way -- not in a way that is also meant to be artistic or stimulating to my other senses.

Having said that, I know my age has something to do with it, because I've spent most of my life processing information in simple, organized formats.  I'm sure younger members have an easier time with it because they've primarily used "busy formats" like this.

I'm hoping the fixes include some very basic things like date/time stamps on threads and posts.  Not having them is one reason why weird old stuff floats to the top.  People can't see on the "main tile" when a thread was started or when the last post was made, so they post something to a thread from 2008, then it floats to the top.

I don't know if people would've migrated away anyway, but it's too bad we lost more members after the format change.  I miss hearing from all of them!

    • Gold Top Dog

I dunno Tracy.  I do a little on FB, and, shoot, I was almost 50 when I went back to college and became a tax accountant, so I'm not that slow or behind the curve, but I have difficulties too.  Maybe the younger people do find it easier, but, a lot of the younger ones are MIA too.

I keep telling myself to be patient since the last time the forum changed it was a nightmare as well, but that was a quicker nightmare!

    • Gold Top Dog

I don't mind the new format now that I've gotten used to it.  I do wish more people posted in other threads. I hear nothing but crickets chirping in most of the threads.  I've wanted to start some training threads or behavior threads but no one seems interested in anything like that anymore.  I miss that but I must be the only one who does.

Tracy, I too wish we could get the date/time stamp back.

I always work on Veterans day.  Not being a veteran, it doesn't bother me.  If I were a Veteran I'd definitely appreciate being given the day off even if the company I worked for was open.

Gabby and I went to the park at lunch today.  It's so nice outside. :)

    • Gold Top Dog

I took Shane grocery shopping with me and then we stopped at our old favorite walking area. He loved it and I managed to find 2 very nice pine cones. If I could find a few more, I could do a nice Christmas decoration with them.

I've got a chicken roasting, already made some mashed potatoes and will steam some broccoli soon. DH went for a bike ride and usually likes to eat his dinner soon after he gets back and cleaned up. I'll be glad to have it all out of the way but won't eat until later. I'm watch The Barefoot Contessa though and I'm pretty sure I've gained weight just sitting here :)

    • Gold Top Dog

Jackie I guess that would be my biggest problem with the new forum now that you mention it.   We used to be able to see new threads that is how I was able to get involved in discussions other than NDR.  Unless I have missed it, or since there is no time stamp, I cant find that same scenario.  I love hearing about training.  I also love hearing about agility and all the other sporting events.  I have recently  gone to a couple of threads only to see that they were from way back when...

    @JackieG

Gabby and I went to the park at lunch today.  It's so nice outside. :)

It was nice here too, wish I could have joined you and GabbyG at the park.
