Sunny Saturday

    Sunny Saturday

Love love love the sunshine. And spring, when it decides that it wants to be spring and not winter. Today is one of those days. Glorious. I am up way too early though for a Saturday but I am already behind schedule. I need to go pick up my friends pick up truck then go to another friends house, pick her and her recycling (old tvs etc) then come back to my house get all my old junk then haul it all to msu then return the friend and the truck, hit the grocery store and drive an hour to meet some sar friends. Busy day! So glad I took yesterday off. I really needed it. I didn't sleep well last night though and could totally go back to bed right now. Even after having a cup of coffee. Have a great Saturday all. Hope you get some sun and warmth!

I've got warmth and sun! It's time to get some vegetables in the ground. Unfortunately, I can't do my whole garden, just what I have in pots. I have a comunity garden plot, and it's never ready before mid-May. But, I'll still be outside most of today doing yardwork and such. I rent, and I don't really have a yard; and it has poison ivy in the back and I'm not allowed to do much. But I think I'll plant some sunflowers this year.

I was up early today, like usual. I'm extra busy these days because a friend of mine had a baby a couple of weeks ago, and needs me to walk her two dogs every morning. Walking three dogs is not easy! Her dogs walk really well, but Zeke forgets his manners...  On top of that, the college semester is nearly over, so I am really busy with projects and such. But, I only have two more weeks, then I graduate Party!!!

I think I'll take Zeke to the park today to relax (me), and play (him).

     Yay for graduation!

Luke's first race of the day is almost up. He's done part of a day with someone else before, but he has never done two days with someone else. He's also using a different box, at least for this first race, and is racing with some different dogs. I'm so worried he won't catch, and will cross the lane, get into trouble, etc. It's probably a good thing he's not with me, because the person running him I don't think is as worried about those things as I am. She's probably more worried about screwing up on her end than him screwing up, and worrying about him never helps things.

Good thoughts for Luke's race today!

Sunny and warm again today. The forecast is for high 80s to mid 90s later this week. Surprisingly, it hasn't seemed too warm and we haven't needed to use I can get out before the AC yet.

I have to brave the crowds at Costco today. I need to pick up Shane's heart meds and I also need a few things. I'm going to be there when they open at 9:30 and hope to get in and out quickly.

I hope everyone has a great day!

So, he apparently caught the ball, but he was really slow. Like 1.5 seconds slower than his average when he catches the ball. He's going in for his second race soon. Hopefully he speeds up in this race. He needs to for the team to make points. I'm also of course worried that something is wrong which is why he was being slow, but it could be all manners of different things.

DH had to go in to work for a few hours.  He didn't find out till the last minute and we were in the process of getting ready to take the dogs for a romp.  Rather than wait for him to get home I took them and they're all happily tired out now.  Trying to explain delayed gratification to three amped up dogs doesn't work. lol

I've gotten some cleaning and laundry done.  I don't know why I wait till the weekend to do all the week's laundry.  Habit, I guess.  It really eats up a lot of time and I am going to try to do a few loads during the week after work starting next week.

I have a tough phone call to make and I've been putting it off for several weeks.  I need to be really honest with someone and it's going to be hard to say what needs saying because I do care about the person.  Basically, I need to tell someone that I'm not willing to be their crutch when they're capable of making better choices about their life.  I have only myself to blame for this situation since I let myself be used for too long without putting on the brakes.  I bet I can find a million reasons why I don't have time today to make this call.  lol

good luck with the phone call Jackie, unless its to me :)

Got an early start this morning, they keep saying we are in for a ton of gray, cool, wet days so I wanted to do some planting.

Got B his walk and then started digging, planting, weeding and tidying. Very excited with one area that I had an idea for and it should be nice. I always buy smallish shrubs to plant so it may be a while before I really know how it looks. Things grow fast here so it won't take too long

Now I've showered, had lunch and am about to watch Lincoln. I've wanted to see it since it came out and just didn't get around to it.

We've had a busy morning so movie time it is!

Yesterday was the first day we made it over 50 degrees. Willa was in shorts and a t-shirt. We spent a lot of time outside. This morning right after they got up, they saw the sun was shining on the deck and out they went. They had pancakes with peanut butter and syrup and a fresh fruit skewer al fresco, in their jammies. lol.

After we got dressed we had to run into town to meet someone who was selling fresh, local maple syrup. I bought two quarts. Smile Then we went to Healthy Kids Day at the Y. The kids had a lot of fun. After that we went to a book store and they each got to pick out a book. They both chose Berenstain Bears books.

We came home and had PBJs out on the deck. Now it's nap time, but both kids are a bit riled up after our busy morning. Hopefully Sonja zonks out!

Yay Janice! I love that you bring your girls to the bookstore! I fear the demise of real books is on the horizon, so I am always happy to hear of someone who still wants them in their lives. I collect children's books; so many have wonderful illustrations. Happy hauling, Julie! Hope Luke is competing well! I've not seen Lincoln yet; it's on my list. Daniel Day Lewis is the greatest actor of his generation, IMO. Jackie, I don't envy you having to make that call. Davis Sedaris was as funny as ever last night. He read a few poems (couplets, really) about dogs that were hilarious. A little edgy or off-color, but the audience howled. Just came back from a 2 mile walk with Ruby and my friend. Still warm and sunny -- I'm sitting on the patio enjoying the breeze. Is this really western Oregon?? NOTE - on iPad and it's putting everything in one big paragraph. I don't like this thing.

Tracy, I'm glad you're having some nice non Oregon weather. :)

I made that call but totally wimped out.  We're meeting for lunch next weekend so maybe I'll have more backbone by then. lol

We just got home from the botanical gardens.  It was so beautiful and lush and just a lovely way to spend Saturday afternoon.  The birds were all busy nesting.  I could have spent all day just bird watching.  We couldn't get to the pretty pond there because one of the Baldwin brothers is filming a movie there.  Kind of pissed me off since the pond is my favorite spot in the gardens. I shouldn't be so selfish. Who knows maybe we'll actually remember and see the movie is it's ever released.

We had to take a slight detour on the way home since the Fiesta Flambeau parade is this evening and traffic was blocked off all around the parade route.  It looks like it's going to storm so I hope they don't get rained on too badly.  The crowds lining up for the parade were incredible.

I forgot to post about the bonus book we found at the book store. After the girls picked out their books from the children's dept (in the back of the store), we were headed back up to the checkouts and passed a book called "The One and Only Willa Bean". I couldn't believe it! We call Willa "Willa Bean" all the time. I was so excited I grabbed it. It's a chapter book, so we probably won't get to it for a while, but I had to get it. I got it home and realized it was book 4 of a 4-part series, so now I'm going to have to go back and get the other three! lol

What an amazing collection! Can you write me into your will? Stick out tongue Wink

We used to have an awesome, charming, locally-owned bookstore downtown, but it went out of business last year. Sad Now I have to go to Book World or order online. Every holiday and birthday when people ask what to buy the kids, I always say books! They have so many toys, books are one thing that we can never have too much of! We have an IKEA Expedit bookcase full of kids' books.

Ahhhh.  What a glorious day.  Beautiful weather and I played in the dirt almost all day.  I've got about 1/4 of the garden turned and planted.  DS needs to do some turning tomorrow for me so I can get the taters in.  Then I cleaned out the herb bed and FINALLY got (hopefully) rid of an intrusive flower that takes over the bed every year.  It's a very pretty flower, and if it would stay in its own corner, I wouldn't mind, even though it really doesn't belong in the herb bed, but by the end of the summer it's hogging a good half of my herb bed, and that doesn't work for me!

Suppose that I should get the moo goo gai pan started......

Me too!! I love that movie "You've Got Mail" and Meg Ryan's character. I fantasized about being her, including the way she had her apt. decorated :).

Jan - your description of the day with the girls sounded dream-like to me and finding the Willa-Bean book was just one more magical part to it. Yay for you!!

Costco wasn't bad at all and I was mesmerized by all the goodies. I managed to get out with only spend a little over $200. I got 3 months of Shane's heart meds for a little over $6. I'd been paying close to $18 for a months worth for the last year :(.

Jackie - no judging from me on being a softie with your friend. I'm guilty of the same. Hopefully it'll be easier face to face.

My friend who has Luke is probably going to be ready to kill people on my team by the end of tomorrow. Luke prefers a different box than the one they are making him use. There was some complaint about the team with him having to use the different box, and they made him use the team box. Apparently, one of the team mates who is okay with the different box is making a push for the Luke team to use the one he likes from now on. The lady making a stink is an older German woman, who I absolutely love. Previously, they were part of a different team, and that team always had cavaliers. The person with the cavaliers left, and Luke was loaned to them for a while. Then they combined with us. She is basically pushing that we should go back to the group of dogs we had before the combination of the teams (and I think we did it once or twice after combining too). I'm with her, and I actually happen to like those people better. Hell, at the last tournament, I was saying to someone else from the team that combined with us that we should split back out. Luke only practiced once on that box, and I knew he was going to suck. I just thought he wouldn't catch. I had no clue the issue would be that he would slow down by 1.5-2 seconds.

We don't have kids and therefore won't have grandchildren, so since I'd want the collection to go to someone who appreciates real books, you and the girls are good candidates for my estate plan!  :-)  It's not really a "collection" -- it's one shelf of a bookcase.  Most are books that involve dogs (Officer Buckle and Gloria and The Other Dog are 2 favorites).  But if a title catches my eye, I'll check it out and see if it's a good story or beautifully illustrated (Zin! Zin! Zin! A Violin is a fun one).  I can wander in the children's department of a bookstore for ages.

I'm so sorry to hear about the loss of your local independent bookstore.  We had a terrific one downtown here that closed a few years ago.  I was so upset to lose such a great resource -- for myself AND for others, since it was my go-to store for gift shopping.  My trademark gift for the kids of all my friends and family is a book.  I think it's awesome that your girls already have a sizable personal library, and the Willa Bean series is a MUST for their shelves!
