Duh!  I could have told you this and saved you the money.  Wink

How do they come up with this stuff?

    I think it involves Vodka.

I sooo see the rotti in him. *dies laughing* A cream kelpie mix is more likely in Finn... His face looks similar to Dodger's.

Oh geez.  I keep wanting to do one of these things with my girl, but I see things like this and realize they're a terrible waste of money.  Too bad...I'm wicked curious!

I keep wanting to do one of these things with my girl,

We know what Dahlia is.......BBBGD  Big beautiful black girl dog  :)

I never quite guessed that Finn was related to a Rottie, I do have to say that the puppy in the picture is adorable!!!

I kind of did want to do this and now I don't - it seems like a huge waste of money, which is a real shame. I think acryonyms are a great idea instead Crysania!

I can tell you why the Aussie came up so strangely - all those dogs ARE in the breed - the Border Collie, too. I always wondered what would happen when they tested one of those sort of breeds. As late as the late sixties, farmers were breeding in "whatever worked" in their sheepdogs. And the registry for both those breeds was very fluid. there is a heavy dose of sight hound and bird dog in the Border Collie, too. Literally any Border Collie could have pit bull, mastiff, setter, whippet, Beardie - not very many generations back. How can these tests sort that out? Apparently, not that well. There are VERY FEW kelpies around - even here where cattle working dogs are common. There are plenty of heelers, though. Your dog displays some ACD traits, while the color is more or less dominant in random bred populations. My guess is some retriever, some bully, some terrier, and a healthy dose of ACD. Check out the world of Australian Cattle Dogs - you may find a lot that is familiar! :)

I wonder how the test would come out if someone submitted a purebred dog? Has anyone tried that?

I'm sure people have done it. I'd love to test my cavalier. Cavaliers all come from 6 dogs, so that should be a pretty clear cut one.

Since they come up with all kinds of crazy answers as to "what" is in your dog, I would love to submit a purebred just to see. They don't ask for a photo along with the DNA sample, do they?

How much do these test kits run?

My manager at work did submit a prebred shiba inu.  It came back all shiba.  There wasn't a  trace of anything else in there.

These tests don't ask for a picture.  The tests are $50, but I get a discount since I work there.

Thanks for the answer. I know my dog is 100% so I won't be plopping down $50 anytime soon. I was very curious though.

I'm thinking of having Boone tested, so this thread is interesting to me.  I don't know what they'll find, my sister and I think he's most likely a Saluki mix, maybe Saluki Canaan.   He's a very fast runner, and though it's hard to tell, I have a video where I can see him doing the double-gaited run.   Would love if the readers here would tell me what they see in these pictures - trying just a link this time, the pics I posted in the intro thread didn't work so well.

And a video, if you feel so inclined (and it works!).   The large Rottie is Boone's special pal, and the one who can open fridge doors.  The smaller Rottie is my BFs dog, who plays rather rough - she seems to think its fun to rush in, barking/growling, then rush away.

I see plenty of Border Collie and IF there is any sighthound at all, something like Whippet or Italian Greyhound before something as rare as Saluki. In general with mixed breeds, don't look for zebras when you hear hoofbeats...look for horses. Salukis are rare, and Border Collies are common...VERY commonly found running loose randomly breeding. The pics show a crouch that is VERY sheepdog. I would say probably BC, Aussie and perhaps even a little Corgi in there to account for the coloring and placement of the white areas...tho BC do come in a fawn or red variant aside from the chocolate/liver tri I think.

Just read your intro and now I am even more sure of the BC...MANY BC not properly socialized or given work end up with boundary or fear issues. They have a very complex mind and often seem to make their own decisions about things or situations that are a bit suspicious. That head is very very BC on your doggy...so I am sticking hard to BC mix.
