Take Your Dog To Work Day :)

I've been taking my dogs to work for many years.  I love it and so do my coworkers.  I work in a small office and there aren't a lot of people in and out.  Most of the visitors to our office enjoy being greeted by friendly dogs.  On occasion someone who obviously isn't comfortable around dogs comes by.  If the person is very nervous we crate the dogs.  If the person is indifferent, the dogs sense this and ignore these people. :)

The favorite of the dogs is the UPS delivery guy.  He's a huge dog lover and the dogs believe that one of these days one of the packages he brings will be full of dog treats just for them.  Big Smile

When things are stressful in the office is so nice to be able to take a short break and play with the pups.  On the rare occasions when we've had no dogs at the office we feel sort of lost and forlorn.

Would you take your dog to work if you could?  Do you already take your dog to work?

I would love to take Bugsy to work if I could and worked in an appropriate environment. Of course with Bugsy it would take some training/time to settle into 'meeting people calmly' Big Smile Although I suppose the excitement of it all wears off when it is the norm. Stick out tongue

I think it can be very beneficial for the workers and the dogs to be able to 'go to work'

If I had a dog, I would. This is me Crying without a dog.

I would love to take Jamison to work with me.  I even have a couch in my office for him to sleep on (just like home).  However, I don't really know how he would react in my work situation.  We have very loud sirens/alerts when a plane is in trouble (about 4 times a day) or a prisoner acts up or a child abduction situation occurs or a myriad of other things   . . . the sirens go off.  We also have a workforce of about 220 people and we run 24/7.  This is a very busy, loud and totally testosterone filled place  . . . Jamison is SUCH a gentle soul and Mama's boy so I'm not quite sure if he would be able to relax here.

Deb, you're probably right in thinking Jamison might not enjoy hanging out at your office. All that activity and noise would seriously interfere with his napping. :)  I bet he would make a thousand new friends though because who could resist that sweet boy?

My dogs are used to the fire truck repair business across the street.  They're always testing sirens and the dogs hardly lift an ear but they've been exposed since they were puppies.

The napping is the one and only thing he is 100% trained in !!  Big Smile

I work from home mostly and Rupert has a bed in my office. When he wants to escape from the mini terrorizers he comes downstairs to hang out with me and take a nap in peace.

I work in an office so yes, I would take my dogs to work in my office if I could.  I do take them to work but they are outside in the van and come out for breaks.  Sometimes I sneak them indoors for a visit but have to be mindful of a colleague that is allergic to *everything* and has kidney disease.  Sometimes I tell certain people a dog is in the van and they know where to go if they want to play with my dog on their breaks.

I'd been wanting to bring Sassy to work but because she was having trouble getting in and out of the car, I'd not done it. At 12 y.o., she really did enjoy sleeping her day away at home and DH was home so much, it just didn't seem worth putting her through the commute. From the day I brought Shane home though, I knew he'd be perfect and he has been. He too loves the UPS guy and is good with any visitor or coworker who happens to stop by. I mostly work alone, so it's been fun for me and forces me to take breaks for walks when I normally wouldn't. I couldn't be happier and I think he feels the same way Big Smile

I think Neiko would make an awesome office dog but being that I work in a gov't building with all kinds of guards and security, it probably wouldn't go over well. Shoot, I had a hard time getting my bike in the building let alone a dog lol

Instead I settle for taking Neiko to our office outdoor activities. Everyone knows and loves him and he eats it up.The other 2 girls don't make very good "community" dogs. Abbie gets too anxious and Lily is rude heh.

I wish!  I would love to bring one w/ me.  I think Blaze would be the best for it, b/c she's very laid back. Co-Co and Dusty would have to get used to having people walking around all the time, but I think once they realized it was the norm, they'd be fine.  Maybe one day....

Yikes -- I'm a phobic flyer, so just reading that gives me anxiety!  Jamison isn't the only one who'd have trouble relaxing in your office, Deb!

I've never worked anywhere where dogs are welcome in the office.  Where I work now would be ideal -- it's a fairly small building, our suite has no walk-in visitors, and I have an office with a door if I needed to contain Ruby.  But, my employers are not animal people.

Even if they let me bring her, I don't know if she'd stay calm and quiet while I worked.  She'd be wound up, wanting to roam around the rest of the office suite.  I suppose in time she'd get used to being here, but the transition would be annoying (for me, as well as the other people here, since she's a very vocal girl).

If she could be with one of us at work, I wouldn't have to feel guilty about her being home alone.  And we could do more on weeknights (we turn down most things unless one of us can stay home with her, so she's not alone in the evenings, too).

I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels this way. Even bringing Shane to work hasn't helped that much. I just prefer to be home with him most of the time and DH feels the same, especially since he doesn't love social stuff that much anyway. I usually make up some excuse for not going but DH will say "we need to stay home and watch Shane cause he has a heart condition" - omg, I about die when he tells me he said that. People must think we are cuckoo for cocoa puffs - LOL!!

Tootsie, comes to work every Friday, but has been coming daily due to construction at my parents. We have a huge air compressor that is constantly on, noisy air tools and just general noise. She curls up on her carpet and sleeps. When customers come in, she makes an appearance to see if they have a treat or even better a pet. Shes very receptive to anyone whos indifferent to her. I've seen grown men sit on  the floor and love on her. She loves the tool guy because he always brings a treat. The front door or the big garage door are usually open, but she knows that she can't go outside without a leash. Shes the perfect work dog! I'll post a pic in Photos.
