Totally Tuesday chat

 It's sunny here! I am loving this sunshine. a week in cloudy OR followed by another cloudy week in MI and I could hardly stand it anymore. So, I am most grateful to mother nature today (and yesterday and for the rest of the sunshine planned this week!).

I am teleworking today but finding it very hard to concentrate. Not that I am distracted by anything (no tv on and such) but my focus is hard to hold on to. I'm trying to decide about tomorrow. Do I go up north tomorrow, hire a dog sitter, sleep in a dirty hotel or go up early thurs, stay for the day then drive back home (3 hr drive each way). I'm leaning towards just going up thurs and getting it all over in one day. I have already said goodbye to gma, I don't really need to drag it out with several days of funeral stuff. This probably sounds callous to those of you reading this but I have always disliked funerals and especially showings plus there's a lot of contention between my 2 uncles that makes everything uncomfortable. Not to mention the angst between my cousin and my siblings. What is it about death that makes people so nasty toward each other? Anyway, just need to get through thurs and things will be more relaxed.

Did I mention it is beautiful here? The windows are all open, the dogs are sleeping and the birds are chirping. Now I just need the hummingbirds to return (they're here somewhere!) and life will be good.

Julie, you don't sound callous about your grandma's funeral or funerals in general. Everyone handles things differently. I don't do drama, so I wouldn't want to be in between warring family members either. The division of the estate, even if there isn't a lot, brings out the worst in people. Ugh.

Not much excitement here yet, just lots of work. My head is still stuffed up, but hopefully won't worsen if the predicted rain moves in.

I survived graduation.  I don't know who celebrated more  . . . me or the graduates !!

Julie, you sound like a loving grand daughter who is at peace with your gma's passing.  Not at all callous.

We weren't allowed to see Mike prior to the Memorial Service, so walking into the chapel was a fist to the gut for me.  But, he didn't look like Mike.  Mike wasn't in that room physically, so that made it easier.  I totally agree, funerals are awful, the viewing is just gut wrenching and when I go, there will be none of either...simply a party.  That's pretty much the way it was for Mike, but in a more formal setting.

You've said your goodbyes and Thursday is more to honor the memory and pacify family.  Do what feels right to you and screw the rest of the world. 

Julie, I'm kind of like you in that I dislike funerals and prefer to say my goodbyes privately whether it's in person or in my heart.  The drama so many people bring to them is just too much for me.  ((((Julie)))

We've got a female pittie mix curled up near the vacuum cleaners at the car wash next door.  She's recently had puppies from the looks of her and is super fearful.  I called the gal from our local AC and she's on her way to try and catch her.  I doubt that will go well but I'm hopeful.

Julie, you don't sound callous at all.  I dislike funerals and have experienced my fair share of family drama at them.  I prefer to say goodbye in my own way. 

The new boss has started and so far so good!  I've liked what I've seen so far from her and think her energy and ideas are going to be very good for our business. 

I miss the sun already too.  It's supposed to be a nice weekend.  My favorite short hiking trail has reopened so if there's no rain this weekend, that's where I'll be with Ari!  

Julie -- you aren't callous -- you did the important thing between you and grandma -- and avoiding the family fights/angst?  That just sounds sensible whether you do or don't like funerals.

FINALLY got a call from the hospital on my "report" to Patient Advocacy about them yelling at my Mom last week for not having a gown on and then the IDIOT nurse (Dad's "nurse of the day" when Mom said "Does my husband HAVE MRSA?" **and** "What **is** MRSA anyway?" this idiot replied "I don't know."  The floor charge nurse was no better.

This woman didn't have her story straight when she called me -- she didn't know Dad DID *NOT* HAVE MRSA. 

I swear -- are these people incapable of reading a chart? 

 Julie, sorry to hear about your grandma. Do whatever you want and the hell with everyone else. I for one am have told my family to tie a weight to my ankle, toss me in the ocean, and let the fish have at me. Like the circle of life, straight out of the Lion King, except instead of being eaten by lions I'll be eaten by a shark.

The new Activities Director at the place I take Luke to do therapy is so, I don't really know how to describe it, cold I guess. She's not exactly nasty, but she's not really friendly. We've been going since February, and she told me today they needed his paperwork on file. When I initially met with the previous person in her position about doing this, I brought over his paperwork. It's also required in order to have him certified. If it weren't for the fact that the staff who I actually interact with the majority of the time are so nice, this woman would probably turn me off to coming back to that facility. Luckily, the nurses and the activities assistants are very nice, and of course, so are the people we are visiting. They apparently don't get many people in, and I think I am the only one who comes on a regular basis. Based on their volunteer sign in log, there are only two other volunteers who come in regularly for other purposes. One is a young woman who I believe has some sort of disability, and I have never met the man who comes in. At least those are the only names I have seen in the book in the past several weeks. I could say though, if I were a potential volunteer and sat down to meet with this woman, I'd probably make a decision to go elsewhere.

Julie- I agree with the idea to just go up for the day.  It gives you the chance to see your relatives who will gather for that day, and maybe your strength and peace will be of comfort to others in your family.  But then you have to leave so you can't get dragged into crazy family drama stuff (at least not for long)

I've got a few photos from our Great Honey Bee Adventure, but I still don't know how to get my photos off my computer and onto the forum. (*hangs head in shame*)

We have a massive house cleaning going on today.  It's only 11am and I'm already tired.  But I've got a lot of stuff to do. Was supposed to bring Gracie for a blood check, but forgot to give her the pill on time... which was the whole point of the blood test - to check her thyroid levels.  So, we're going at 2pm.

So much to do - I'm off again!!  MORE COFFEE!!!

and she is the **activities director**???  What a bundle of laughs THAT place must be.  A "cold" activities director ... phew.  Been there, tho and it tends to make me think "well, these folks really NEED my dog, cos they get precious ltitle sunshine otherwise!"  but at the same time that makes you feel shanghai'd.

Julie - I must've missed the post about your gma passing away. I'm sorry for your loss and agree that funerals and death bring out the worst in families sometimes. (((Hugs)))

It's gorgeous here today and looks like it'll stay sunny but not too hot for the rest of the week. DH wanted to go to the gym and then for a long bike ride, so I brought Shane to work with me. I love having him here with me .

A firefighter DH works with has been missing since last Friday. He went out on a kayak on a small lake and hasn't been seen since. They found the kayak, so it doesn't look good. They've had people out every day with their boats looking for his body and they set up a camp out there for his family.

It's raining cats and dogs here. :) Luckily not real ones.

The mama dog has been caught and is safe.  No sign of her puppies.  :(
