Crate fans

    Crate fans

It's getting really hot here, and when Zoey is at the shows I want to make her as happy as possible. I see the crate fans at shows all the time, but none of my friends have one so I don't have anybody to ask. Do they really make dogs more cooler or is it just a waste of money?

Since I don't go to shows much, I don't have any experience with using them there. But since we don't have AC in our house, and it's hot here, as well, I leave a fan on my puppy when she's in her crate. I just use one of the window box fans and set it near her crate, not right next to it. I know that helps because it keeps her from panting a lot, and the air isn't so hot, etc. When we're at home we have fans on too, and the dogs will lay in front of the fan so they can keep cool. It keeps me a lot cooler, and I know it does for the dogs because they choose to lay in front of it when they're hot. I can't really say for the crate fans themselves, but I think they would help[:)]

Yes, they do make a difference.  I've got the small, battery operated ones that hang on the crate door.  Clean Run also is selling a more powerful fan: [linkhttp://www.cleanrun.com]www.cleanrun.com[/link], go to the store.

Yes! I love them. I have one for each of my dogs, plus one extra. Dog.com has added them to their inventory I've noticed (excellent!!). They just hang on the front of the crate, which is very nice. In very hot situations I've noticed they DO make a difference.

I think they do make a difference, I have the "way cool" fan from clean run that I use at trials.  I think it helps keep air circulating and keeps a breeze on Dasher which would make him a bit more comfortable.

I have one, also, and it helps.  But I saw some folks with one that had a thermostatic control to turn on when a preset temp is reached.  I found this one, and it even has a cooling insert (like a freezer pack), as well as a car charger/adaptor and an AC (wall-charger) adaptor, too.  I want this!!

    Miranadobe,
I have two of these and they work great. My male does get very warm, but with the cooling insert in the fan does not pant nearly as much.  I highly recommend!

Awesome!!  Thanks, Melissa!  I'm buying the "package deal" that has the fan, the cooling insert, and the AC adaptor - saves $11.  Hooray!  Can add this to my battery of anti-heat "weapons" at shows... the cooling towel/jacket, the personal misting thing... etc!

I use both crate fans & cool down pads for my guys when showing in the heat. It really does make a difference especially when you are hanging around all day waiting to go to group

I've also used them at home with the frenchies on warmer days when we don't have the air on

    Jamie,
Are the cool down pads wet-get the dog wet?  Been looking for just such a thing but have Lhasas-can't go into the ring wet!
    Thanks,
    Melissa

Wow, thanks everyone so much for your quick replys!
After typing this thread, I asked my agility trainer also about it. He just stopped by my house and brought me his to borrow for the weekend. I turned it on and put it on my hand. Not much pressure. But I guess it will help when it's hot.[:)]

I think they're great.  Maggie's crate is right next to an A/C vent, so it doesnt get too hot.  She has a fan mounted on the back of her (wire) crate to blow the cool A/C air into her crate.  I think it makes a difference, and when it gets really hot out she likes to lay in her crate and enjoy the cool air.

    Flatcoatluver,
Did you have fresh batteries in it?  Mine will run slower as the batteries run down.

oh ok, thanks! I guess I really didn't think of that. I will put new batteries in it.

Great thread! Now that Jamie has posted the cooling pad link, I'm going to be shopping AGAIN!  Just what I was looking for at a good price and my favorite color, blue!
