This may be a little long winding but I need to get it off of my chest....
My husband and I moved to the country last August - dirt road, no fenced yards, and everyone seems to own a dog. A new built house was sold on the main dirt road we take to get to our house. A family moved in this Spring. Wife, husband, kids...and soon they had the cutest little puppy - a male Weimaraner. I instantly thought to myself "I hope they know all the exercise and mental requirements for that dog!" Then I told myself to shut up and quit thinking everyone are complete idiots when it comes to dogs. Maybe they got it for hunting, maybe they went to a good breeder, maybe they will do field trials. I *hoped* that they would be as good of owners as most of us here are. But I did feel slightly disappointed with the breed of dog they chose. They did not appear to be an active family and by the appearance of their yard, extremely lazy people. I had to tell myself to shutup again....I should not judge others by appearence and its none of my business what kind of dog they get!
When going to work in the mornings and driving by this house DH & I would see it outside, supervised by someone while it was using the bathroom. Days go by, weeks, months....and with every passing day we see the same puppy outside on our way to and from work. At first supervised all the time, then only sometimes, and more recently always by itself. One day on my way to the store it was in the road a couple of houses down. I told my husband one morning "I bet anything that the dog will end up in a shelter or something. I don't think they know how to properly care for it". He of course said it's none of our business and to let it go.
A couple of weeks go by and they put up a line run for the dog. It is now constantly tied up outside - at least every morning and every evening when we drive by. THEN I see a dog house. It is sitting in their driveway for almost a month. We barely see the dog outside anymore.
Do you want to know what they did with the dog house? Put it in the back yard and now the Weim is tied up all the time to it. No shade other than the dog house. It's hard to see from the road if he has water or food. I have no doubt in my mind that it is not allowed in the house anymore. Whenever people are outside, it still is there, tied to the doghouse, no interaction. This pup is MAYBE 7 months old...and I want to do something about it. But not being a next door neighbor to actually see what is going on, maybe I should just butt out like DH says.
But I just have a feeling this dog will sit and rot tied to that doghouse the rest of its life if someone doesn't step in. [
