I've helped make tamales and it's a lot of work.  Around here it's a tradition in many families to get together to make them.  An assembly line makes it go faster and all the laughing and sharing make it a lot of fun.  The only part I had a little trouble with was seeing the pig head cooking in the big pot outside.  I'm not a bit squeamish but didn't realize what was in this enormous cast iron pot and when I looked in I was startled to see the pig looking back at me, so to speak. lol  I quickly found a job in the kitchen assembly line. :)

We know a large family here that gets together 2x's a year and does this.  They make enough for the whole family to freeze back til the next time.

ROTF! Yeah, I can see where that might startle a person.  Thanks for the tip, just in case we are invited to share in the "family" gathering.  Ron and I used the buttttt not the head Stick out tongue

Paige, are you trying to tell me that i should stop whining about getting up early because some people have it worse? LoL not gonna happen, but nice try ;p Ihave not even the slightest inkling to want to be an early morning riser.

Well, our tamales didn't involve a pig head but I recall that there was a lot of alcohol consumed. We had a lot of fun and also made enough to split up and freeze for a long time. The tamales lasted far longer than the boyfriends did but it was a fun night.

Call me heartless, but I absolutely never give money to a beggar. Around here, we're taught not to make eye contact with them. I'm pretty good at it, because they rarely ever even try it with me. I think only once I have I actually been asked directly for anything. A couple asked me for money for bus tickets in Boston. I don't know what I said to them, but needless to say, they got no money from me. Oh, and there was one guy once in Penn Station who was trying to sell something to people sitting and waiting for the train. He came over to the people I was talking to, but not me directly. I never even looked at him. I also don't typically get bothered by the people in the mall who hassle you to try things. Again, I try not to let them get eye contact with me, and I keep walking.

My HEPA filter has arrived. It didn't instantly cure me. Boo.

I offer to buy people food and also I buy pet food for people on the streets. But never do I give straight cash out. I've actually had a guy get sooo mad at me when I refused to hand over cash, even thou he said it was for food and I offered to buy him subway.
