Where does your dog sleep?

    Where does your dog sleep?

I was talking to a friend today and she asked us where our Sammy sleeps and I told her downstairs, either in the living room on his bed or in the family room on his bed (we put a couple beds around the house just in case he wanted a change of scenery [:);)

After I said that, she said that I was making him feel lonely and he felt like I was punishing him every night because he probably wanted to sleep with his pack. Huh?  I had no idea.  Does anyone know if there's any validity to that?  I wouldn't want him to feel left out, but I certainly didn't plan on his "space" to be my hallway upstairs.

He's free to roam wherever he wants, but he sleeps on the first floor.  I had no idea that might be a bad thing!  Where does your dog sleep? [sm=happy.gif]

both our dogs sleep in their crates at night as they cant be trusted in the house yet. amelia probably could be, but we didnt think it was fair to sydney to let her be out at night and not him.

Our adopted 4y/o sleeps in our bedroom on her bed... she has started to snore, so we have moved her further from our bed, but she follows us around the house, and she didn't like not being with us at night....

Maya sleeps out on her favorite bed in the living room.  She doesn't mind at all.  She used to sleep in the bedroom on the floor, but her snoring and nightmares would keep me up all night.  When I used to have her sleep in the bedroom I'd have to go get her from the living room and make her go into the bedroom.

I happen to agree w/ your friend that they should be in w/ you, both of mine sleep in their own vari kennels, in my room. That's how they were I got them so I never changed it they run into them at bedtime if I am a little late getting there.

Tyson sleeps on our bed with us.  He has a sheet that goes over the covers on the end of the bed, and he generally stays on his spot all night.  We keep him over the covers on his own sheet so that our bed doesn't get too "doggy".

He will stay there all night, and not get out of bed until we do!

In my room, in his kennel.

I have had people tell me that they should be OUT of the room and I have had people say that they should be IN the room.  I personally like them in the room just so I know where they are and make sure they are okay.  Daisy (12 weeks old) sleeps in her crate.  Duke 1 1/2 used to sleep on our bed, but because of aggression issues he now sleeps on the floor or in his crate.

If your dog prefers to sleep on the 1st floor, I don't really see why it would matter.  But I am far from being an expert![:D]

My pup slept in his crate in our bedroom until he was fully housetrained. Since then he is in the bedroom with us with the door closed, but he can sleep anywhere he likes - usually he starts out on the floor and ends up in his crate.

Wrigley starts off in bed (on my side) and then he slips off and sleeps under the bed (on my side).  Even if my DH and I switch sides he comes with me!

We have a dog bed in the living room that Brown will sleep on because it's next to my favorite chair. He'll sleep there during the day if I'm nearby. When we go to bed, he has a bed next to ours, and if Brett's not home or in bed yet, he sleeps with me. Grey also has a bed next to ours, but he prefers to sleep in a corner next to Brown. Sometimes he'll get up to sleep on the couch, or if no one's looking, he'll sneak into our bed.

Gingerbread sleeps on my bed; sometimes he goes and sleeps on the carpet for awhile and then comes back to bed.

Gizzy sleeps under my bed. I've tried to get her to sleep on the bed but she always jumps off and sleeps under it instead.

I'de say if your dog is free to roam around then just leave your bedroom door open and see where he ends up. If he's more confortable sleeping downstares then I don't see anything wrong with that.

Growing up I only had outdoor dogs because I lived on somewhat of a farm and my parents never let the dog in. (although, I always let them in when my parents were not watching) They were always happy dogs and never seemed to be bothered about sleeping outside. Each had there own little dog house and each slepted in a different dog house. Just depends on what the dog likes to do.
