    Prayers are on the way......................

Sometimes having a fresh pair of eyes (new Doc) can make all the difference in the world.

I am so glad she is eating.  My prayers are with you and your family.  Romeo sends lots of doggy kisses.

Glenda - sending good thoughts and prayers that they get this figured out.  Good work on getting her to eat too.  I know what it's like to worry over a parent but at least it sounds like she's real cooperative (or scared of you [;)]).

Glenda -- a lesson from my Gramdma -- she was famous (at least with me) for saying that any problem you had looked smaller if you thought about it while drinking a cup of Constant Comment Tea from a NICE cup and had a cookie with it.

Now to Gram a 'cookie' was either molasses or a 'cream' cookie (both very old timey recipes made out of 'leftover' milk and I'd send them to you if you want them).  But the important things were this:

    1.  Gram was convinced you were more motivated to eat PROPERLY if you drank from a pretty cup and ate off a pretty plate.  She had a zillion sandwich sized plates she'd picked up at garage sales just because "it was pretty" -- didn't match a thing but SHE liked it.

    2.  Sometimes little luxuries put you in a better frame of mine - especially if they're things good for you anyway.

Now your mother isn't MY grandma, but look around for something a little pretty or unusual.  Folks our parents age usually can't get into drinking out of styrofoam or a "water" bottle -- a 'normal' glass might make her feel less 'sick'??  And is there some thing that stirs a memory (a kind of drink she DOES like  or a cookie that makes you think of her??  Like maybe a recipe for potato salad that might actually taste good to her or something??    Tempting someone to eat or drink can be a big deal.  Would there be a cup, mug or glass at home that she might feel more comfortable using??  Normalcy might be a small thot to help I was thinking.

Glenda; Your mother is on my prayer list;  I hope they find the answer soon.

Glenda, I'm sorry to hear about your mother's BP struggles and health concerns.  It's taken over 3 years for my mother to get the right "mix" of BP meds that didn't cause a host of other problems.  The frustration with constant changes affected her physically and emotionally.

Callie's idea about serving ware was excellent!  I'm going to remember that.  It's true that a large part of food "tasting good" is in its presentation (just ask the professionally trained chefs).  I remember as a kid, it was a HUGE deal to eat off special plates that we really loved - ones with favorite characters on them, or certain colors and designs, etc.

When we did pet therapy visits with Tonka in our local hospital, I remember visiting an elderly ;patient who had nothing but a can of Budweiser on his bedtray.  We joked with him about heading out to the bar when the nurses weren't looking, and he said, "I have no appetite, and the doctor asked me if there was anything that sounded good to me.  Beer was honestly the only thing.  So they brought me some."  It had a prescription label on it from the hospital pharmacy - they keep beer on hand just for such patients.  I guess it has some nutrients, and the calories are better than no food at all!  It's so hard to make yourself eat when nothing sounds good to you.

Sending good thoughts that your mother feels better and gains some strength and appetite and that a new doctor can shed some light on how to help her.

    Glenda,

You, your mother and your whole family are in my thoughts.  My dad has pretty much exactly the same medical issues, so I know what you're going through.

Danged AOL....I had a whole post typed out and then I got a pop up and when I closed it I heard the dreaded  "goooodbye".....

The day STARTED good...low bp, good appetite......bp went up, meds got added, appetite went away, confusion came back, fatigue, etc.  And Mom doesn't get what the docs have said straight, so we don't get real answers...and there doesn't seem to BE any time in a hospital so getting there while the doc is in is next to impossible.

Sis has power of attorney and access to both the cardiologist and the GP so will call this morning with our list of questions and concerns.  Will head back down there in a little bit, and let ya'll know what's going on later in the day......
