Happy Birthday, Shadow

Shadow, I would've wished you Happy Birthday sooner had I known, but my mom didn't see this till today.  I had a birthday yesterday so we are the same zodiac sign:-))  I'm 11, and a gray muzzle, too.

 Peanut and Red wish Shadow a belated HBD.  They are 6 and 7.

Up in north TX, you can probably put the cake out and the candles will self-ignite.  Temps here have held to the low 90s and we're getting lots of rain, but the resulting humidity puts the heat index near 100 anyway.  Dogs really pant a lot in humidity.

Good to "see" you again Ron.

Without further ado, here are some of the pics that successfully uploaded, including a pic of Jade, our cat, a medium fur white Turkish Angora we picked up on the mean streats of our own 1 stop sign town. She is called Jade because her eyes are green like the creamy green of jade.

 And yes, Burl, we are burning up, up here. This will be the hottest week yet. Official highs of 106 to 108, THI over 110 F.

 Shadow is house-trained. So, we can leave him on the house for large chunks of time and he can get some relative relief. I have four water bowls. Two outside, two inside.

 The old man is handling it pretty well, I think.

Sending some birthday wishes to Shadow -- a little late.  Shadow, you look great -- you haven't aged a bit since your last photos!  It looks like you have a nice big yard to play in, but while it's super hot, keep your birthday celebrations mellow, with plenty of time in the shade or A/C!

Ron, Jade is a gorgeous cat.  The walking route my friend and I often take goes by a house that sometimes has a petite, white cat on the front step.  Her eyes are light colored -- not quite green, but very captivating!

Shadow says thanks. Is that a deer bone I smell? Let me try a sit, a down, a run and recall ... What is that that I can do to get that deer bone?

He brings us joy and happiness. Hopefully, we do the same for him. It makes me think of Admiral Kirk's words of eulogy for the fallen Cmdr. Spock in Star Trek II. "Of all the souls I have known, his was the most human."

And yes, it is a huge backyard. And he keeps it relatively squirrel-free.

Either he chases them away or he gets one, plays too hard with it (no punctures) and then I have to bury it. I've probably buried 4 squirrels in the backyard. Cotton rats, on the other hand, he will go ahead and eat since they are small and chewy.
