Talking too much about your dog....

I'm always talking about Blue and I don't care if they don't want to hear any more stories of Blue or what ever is going on with my animals. However I think people like hearing about what the evil Tigger is ploting to destroy or what he has done now.

My brother talks about Blue so much to my niece when she was borned about how cute he is, what he is like, and how much he is going to lover her. And guess what my niece's first word was, Blue. She is 10 months now and she loves to call Blue's name and have him come over to give her kisses. Plus she is also starting to learn things from Blue like put one of her toys in her mouth then crawl around with it in her mouth then growl at people.

I don't care I love my animals and I'll just keep talking about them no matter what.

oh yeah since my niece loves Blue so much we even found her a toy dog that is white with blue eys and has a rattle in it. That is a picture of my niece sleeping with her Blue dog as we named her toy.

Since I gave up my life when I got Xerxes, everyone knows to ask me about my kid.  Since I changed positions at work and he can't come in with me everyday, the only question I get from my old co-workers is: When's "Lunchy" (His nickname since I worked with alot of Koreans) coming in?  They've even threatened to start calling him "dinner" because he got bigger.

well all my family and friends know that if they can't hold a conversation about animals with me we won't have much in common.  I have always had a love for animals and i have even said that i can bear seeing a dead body than a dead animal.  A little extreme?  That's just how much i love my animals and all animals for that matter. My dogs are one of the most important things in my life other than my human kids. So love me love my dogs as we all say

By now my friends, coworkers and family know that I live and breath Romeo, so they will not even ask me anymore how am I doing, which does not offend me, they ask about Romeo.  My gifts for my b-day were: gift certificates for a very expensive doggy spa, $50.00 for Petsmart, doggy bandannas, and a $100.00 gift certificate to my vet, doggy steps because my bed is so high and they noticed how I always pick up Romeo to bring him up or down, one of my friends had taken a picture of him once at the park and had it made into a throw.

I know they are not all dog lovers, but they know that what makes me happy is to talk about my Romeo, so they indulge me.  Thank God, because I will talk for hours, but I also ask about their human babies and knit booties, or blankies.

Oh yes! my Hubby and I even email back and forth while he is at work a bout the cats or the dog.  Also, when I have breakfast with my sisters and brother, I can see my Brothers eyes start to glaze over, so I know it is time to stop. lol[;)]

When I visit my relatives in southern Indiana, I bring pictures of my dogs.  [:D]  I even made them all sit down and watch Kota and I's first agility trial.  And they did!!  Now these are farm folk where all animals live outside.  So I'm very happy they all sat down to watch and ask questions.  I don't have kids so my dogs are my stories.

My boss asked me about my insterests one day, and I said, "Well, I like art, computers, books..... oh and I love animals a lot and I have 2 dogs and a cat..." And at that point she went "Oh that's great. See ya." and rushed off to do something else while I was STILL TALKING. That hurt my feelings. >-.-<

I know i can be a tad overkill sometimes. I get excited and tend to gush on and on about her. Most people listen, some are even on the page as me, but not everyone is  interested in everything we have to say. Although they will humour me![;)

But I've also had my feelings hurt a few times. Don't you just hate when someone will ask you "so how are you and your dog doing?" And when you answer with more than the simple "Fine, thanks.",  You can watch as they tune you out and interrupt with  the,"Uhhmmm that's nice" while you're in  mid sentence.

That same person told me " I need to be careful and not make 'That Dog' my life. " And i thought Pffft, why the heck not!

Oh well, guess what? I am not spending much time around these folks! Chinook's not hurting for attention from people. Most everyone fawns all over her, and she happily sucks it all up!

I'm sure my coworkers think I talk about my dog to much, but I think that they talk about their kids and grandkids too much, so it's fair.

DH and I talk about the dogs all the time. Other people are welcome to join in and talk about dogs with us. If their eyes glaze over, and they wander away, we just continue talking to each other about the dogs. We are boring, but happy. Our conversations cover 1. pets 2. work 3. our flowers or house. At least we cannot be accused of being gossips!

If DH is grumpy, I can call him at work and tell him about something either the cat or dog did. It cheers him right up. I usually tell him to check his email, and send pictures to go with the stories. I maintain our catster and dogster pages just for DH's amusement. If I am grumpy, the kids at work know that they can always get me off task (yet happy again) by asking questions about the dogs. It never fails. The kids tell me they do this to DH also.

Besides how can I NOT talk about my dogs, when they look like this???

Haha... we do the same kinds of things. We barely even argue anymore since we got the dog, because as soon as tension arises one of us will defuse the situation with some joke about our pup. It's so great to have someone to share all those cutesy silly pet moments with - just reading about other peoples' similar relationships makes me smile. [:)]

Just today I started reading a book called Pack of Two by Caroline Knapp, and I knew I had to post from it on this thread - the first chapter talks about exactly this topic. So if you'll indulge -

This is a complicated task, trying to describe how a relationship with a dog can be healthy and sustaining and rich. It's hard even trying to explain that the attachment does, in fact, qualify as a relationship, a genuine union between two beings who communicate with, respect, and give to one another. Unless you fall back on the one or two pat explanations we routinely trot out in order to explain the canine place in the human heart - dogs give us unconditional love, dogs are "good companions" - it's hard to talk about loving a dog deeply without inviting skepticism.

This weekend, we're going to get to see the woman who found Roscoe, nursed him back to health, and then gave him to us.  She just happens to be in the area and invited us to a BBQ at her family's.  I am already picking out all the Roscoe, Scout, and Bella pics that I want to print out and put in an album to show her. [:D]  I have 100 so far. [8D]

Luckily, she's a huge animal lover and has a vested interest in Roscoe.  I'm sure that's what most of my conversation with her will be about. She's my husband's friend, so dogs are our only connection. [:D]

I can go on and on about Shadow, dog stuff, canid evolution, etc. I usually wind it down when peoples' eyes start to glaze over and they begin to nod off.

At work I am reffered to as the dog freak, I am obsessed with my pups.  It was real funny, because at my last job, the first day I brought in a picture for my desk-a huge picture of Lily.  Everyone knows my dogs nicknames, "Puss" and "Tunky."  I even have voices that go along with the names.  My family aren't as obsessed with animals.  Funny, for my bday, a coworker got me a bumper sticker that says,"my child has 4 legs."  Get my drift....
