Jasmine, sadly NOT joining us for Christmas

Jasmine was the dog I talked about in MC last week.  Basically, her owners are moving and the pet policy where they are going does not allow dogs over 25lbs.  We had hoped that we could keep her until a new home could be found.  Outdoorschic said she will advertise Jasmine on her website.  We went yesterday to meet her and were planning on bringing her home.  We took Blaze with us b/c sometimes she doesn't get along w/ other dogs and we wanted to make sure they would get along.  On a high note, Blaze behaved wonderfully (I was very proud).  Unfortunately, Jasmine did not like Blaze.  We tried walking them around in a nearby field, but Jasmine kept barking/lunging/etc.  There was just no way we could bring her with us :(  Jasmine lives w/ another dog and Cindy (her owner) said that her son brought other dogs over several times and she never acted that way.

Cindy said they are going to be finishing their move the first week of Jan.  So I'm trying to remain hopeful that we can still find a new home for her.  With that hope in mine, here are some pics and as much info as I could get about Jasmine:

Jasmine is a 10 year old Chow/German Shepherd mix.  She weighs between 55 & 60 lbs.  Cindy got her about 3 years ago.  Before that she lived in a small pen on a farm.  She *loves* people.  Currently she lives with a Havenese puppy and 2 cats (and they all get along fine).  Her owner has been running a daycare in her home for years so Jasmine is very used to small children and does well with them. She doesn't play with toys a whole lot, but has recently starting playing a little bit of fetch.  She enjoys spending time outside and taking walks.  She also likes to take car rides.  She is very clever and knows how to open doors (I'm told she doesn't care about closing them though Wink) She will also test gates and will go out them if they aren't securely latched.  She doesn't know many comments right now, but she does know sit and seems very willing to please so will probably pick up other commands with some work.

There's not a whole lot of time left, but maybe if we all try to get the word out about Jasmine, we'll be able to help her find a new home.

She's a very cute girl.  If she needs help getting to a new home, I'll be glad to give her a ride.  Just let me know.

Ok everyone... lets all make a concerted effort to cross post this widely. Craigslist is ok, not all folks who respond to Craigslist ads are bad... the repsonses just need to be screened well. Lets get her on Petfinder as well. Anyone who can help, please post to this thread be it, helping to post online, or calling shelters for foster homes, etc. etc.

Steph, Please clear with the owner if she wants me to pass on interested parties directly or just to clear them and give them her info. Shoot me a pm with her phone number, email address and home address with her permission of course. I wouldn't use it for postings, but would need it if I find someone.

I'm pretty sure she would be ok w/ us clearing the person, but I'll have FH check w/ her and will send you her contact info once he gets the OK from her.

I'm also still able to help w/ any transport and will put her on our Craigslist.  Never really looked at PetFinder, can anyone list a pet there or do you have to be affiliated w/ a shelter?  I'll go to the site and check it out, if I can, I'll post her there too.

ETA: Was just on PetFinder and it looks like I can make a classified ad.  I was planning on just copying the bio I put here, any changes/tweaks you think I should make first?  Also, I b/c I don't want to mislead anyone, should I say something about the fact that even though she currently lives with another dog that she didn't get along w/ mine?  It says they won't post 'Free to a good home ads' and says that some sort of adoption fee should be required in order to help weed out unethical buyers (I'd heard that before) I'm not sure what amount to put though.  I'm thinking the fee could be used if we need to help transport and then the rest donated to a local shelter... Anything else you guys can think of before I put her listing up?  I don't want to wait too long since we don't have much time.

My thoughts on the fee - (this is what I do for my dogs) - $50-$100 dollars to be donated directly to a rescue by you or me or whomever winds up finding the home in the adopter's name. I'll personally contribute to gas if we find a home for her and can drive some ways.

For the ad - use the text you have but simplify a bit... use all the pictures, or crop the one where she is looking at you to just her. Put her age, that she's a mix (I don't see chow/shep personally). Describe that she is good with most dogs.

PS - We can use my adoption app, which is not perfect as I've been tweaking it, but it's a good start.

Here's a link to my ad on NH Craigslist:

    Works for me :)

Thanks for the link, I'll copy that for the CL here and the PetFinder ad

ETA: CL add is up here's the link.  I made an ad on PetFinder, which should be authorized in 24-48 hours.  I just copied Karen's ad

Good Luck!  I'm sure a pretty girl like this will have no problems finding a home!

I truly hope so, she deserves it.

For some reason the Craigslist trolls in my state decided I was a jerk for this listing (since I refered to the owner as a friend), cursed me via email and flagged it. I will repost. I am being very careful to withhold my opinion as I just want to help, I suppose if I'd have clarified how I felt in the posting they wouldn't have flagged me. Sigh... the things I've deleted from my inbox today are appalling. Craigslist is a good tool, but it can be frustrating.

Just checked my email, and had a response.  I'm going to PM it to you, Karen, b/c it sounds ok, to me, but I've never done this before and don't know what I should be looking for.

Outdoorschic and I have gotten some responses back from Jasmine's listings.  We are currently following up on those.  Just wanted to let you all know where we currently stood.  Keep those good vibes coming :D

I'm still waiting for her PetFinder ad to be approved, I think that should be happening by tomorrow.

Thanks for the update, Steph!  I hope this girl gets a new home.

You guys are just so awesome. Jasmine is a lucky pup! If transportation is needed, do put out a call so any of us nearby could lend a hand :)
