How does your dog tell you that he has to go out?

If I'm awake, he runs to me and licks whatever he can get to, my face If I'm sitting, my hands if Im not, I start petting him and he dart off to the door, if I don't follow he'll repeat until I get the picture. If I am sleeping however, he will jump on my bed, crawl over me and lay down on my stomach and stare at me until I wake up.

Roscoe stands at the back door and waits for someone to notice that he's standing there.  If we take too long to notice, he'll lie down and sigh very loudly. [:D]LOL  Bella whines at the back door.

Beau will walk in circles around me whining. If I tell him to "get" and he returns very shortly to whine, then he has to go out. If he doesn't return, and lays quietly after telling him to "get", then he was just trying to get my attention for play, food, water, etc.

Loki scratches the back door to get out. We taught him to do that as a puppy. Odin just goes and stands there, so we really have to pay attention to him, but he's never gone inside.

Our pup is too young yet and so we just keep letting her out as much as possible. We ask her to 'speak' before we open the door so hopefully she will soon figure out she has to ask to be let out.

Our 2-year-old Dakotah stands at the back door quietly until we notice. If we don't notice she'll start to bark in a very low voice, almost like a muffled 'woof.'' She seems to save her loud barks for cats, the mailman and so forth.

The funny thing is, if we're all nowhere near the back door, like all in the family room, she'll still just get up and go to the back door and wait for us to notice she's not in the room with her. I guess she's trained us because now when she leaves the TV room we figure she's heading for the back door.

We didn't teach Loki to speak at the back door, because he always wants to go outside and he'd be barking at us all the time. [:)] If we don't pay attention to his scratching, he will start whining and woofing a little.

Russell stares to get our attention, then moves toward the door to go out, or toward the kitchen to be fed. If we're really spaced out he'll put his little head on our knees and shoot laser beams from his eyes. [sm=biggrin.gif]

Bella, 5 1/2 months old, will walk to the back door and wait for us to let her out.  If we wait to long, she has had accidents on the floor by the door before.  Hopefully, she'll grow out of it.

Lana will ring her bell.  If we're not downstairs to hear it, she'll "talk" (grumbling kind of bark) to us and you can tell my her body language she wants you to follow her.  When you stand up, she'll walk to the backdoor all the while checkign if you're still following her haha

Molly sits and stares at me - panting the whole time.
So I ask "Molly you have to go out?" and she dances with excitement. If she doesn't dance she doesn't have to go out she simply wants my undivided attention

Jake comes to me and whines most of the time if I ignore him he will bark like a nut.  We can't go by the standing at the door thing because he is always by the door. Either looking out or laying there where the sun comes in.[:)]

He also does this wierd little lick thing.  Its like quick little get your attention licks. So funny!!

Shenzi will go sit by the sliding door.  If we're in another room, she'll leave and go sit by the door.  She's still a pup so if we don't let her out, she will go in the house...grrr...

she won't bark, though.  I wish she would bark at the door all the time when she wants to go out.  the only time she'll bark is if it's in the middle of the night or early morning when she's in her crate (and we're sleeping) and she has to go...

    Zelgamer - hehehe......funny and cute!!
I find that when JJ is sleeping on my bed while I'm dead asleep.
    1. If she needed to pee.....she would get up and make a noise through her nose....
    2. Then if that don't get my attention, she would walk over to my pillow area and try to get my attention.
    3. If I still don't do anything, she would crawl ontop of me and just lie on me....
By then I'm giggling and she is soooooo cute!!

She don't tell me when she want to go outside, she only goes crazy when I take out the harness/leash.  The most she would do is when the bedroom door is close, she would sit by it and tap on the door with her paws.  That's telling me to let her roam around the house.  [:)]

Morgan paces around the window by the door...not really sure why though. Winston doesn't have any signals, we jsut let him out at certain times of the day and it works for him. Tia scratches the door a bit, and Tango sits and stares at me, then looks back in the direction of the door and then back at me.

Max has a doggy door, so he doesn't have to announce that he has to go - he just goes out himself when he needs to.
