Does your house smell like a dog?

I dunno guys.  My ultra finicky, never had an animal in her house, sister expressed her shock that 6 dogs and 3 cats and NO odor at all.......

I don't use chemical stuff either.  DH's ex had febrezed the pillows and the danged smell kept me awake alllll night.  Or what was left of it anyway.  I might be super sensitive to odors, but, that stuff bothers me.

My dogs are rarely bathed.  They are brushed regularly and that helps a lot.  My cat box doesn't get bad at all.  The cats eat a grain free, so not much stool anyhow, and I scoop first thing in the morning and frequently throughout the day.  Since the box sits RIGHT next to the toilet it's very hard to ignore!

I DID notice a bit of a doggie smell on the sheet that covers the couch when I did laundry this past weekend.  That load got an extra dose of white vinegar.  When I came home I stuck my nose in every dog, and didn't smell anything particularly doggy

Now I will admit that Corky's crate on a really hot day.....if you stick your head inside, actually MIGHT smell like a critter!

I'm not sure that my house really smells like dog...but more like "dog stuff"!  Ruby and Stewie always have bones, kongs, dog food, or things like that, that seem to smell.  Ruby is  what I call a "stinky-roller".  She does roll in stinky things...and after a super hard play session, and mud and such they both can be stinky...but I've gotten them VERY used to taking baths and then laying out in the sun on the porch, or in front of the fireplace to dry off.  So I think it's the dog toys, and dog bones, and dog blankets that smell.

I do use a lot of febreeze, I use Petfresh or Resolve Carpet cleaner before vaccuming...and I ended up getting slipcovers for our furniture so that I can just throw those in the wash as well.  I do admit I should get better about washing their blankets more often, but those are in their crates which are in our bedroom...and pretty far away from guests.  As we remodel our house we are not putting in ANY more carpet.  I refuse to clean dog smell out of carpet.  It smells SO much better with nicely swiffered floors.

I'm sure my house smells like dogs live there...but I don't think it's too strong or anything...but I'm sure you can tell I have dogs.

Yeah.  I worry about this a lot.  I mean I hate that I would never smell it and other people said that the could with my other dog. With my little girl now, nobody says anything, but I haven't asked either.  It bothers me, but I will never be without a dog again, so I guess it's just a trade off.

I'm sure you could probably smell my litter box before you could smell my hairless dog. LOL. She has no smell at all except whatever shampoo & conditioner I've used on her.

Now her breath is another story...

Nikole, the only time a house will smell of 'dog' is if the dog smells. People who have smelly homes usually have smelly dogs. Just keep your dog clean and smelling nice.

I know my old house used to keep the smell in really bad. It was so small and I didn't have any windows I could open. So all the hair and dander was never ending. I vacuumed every single day, and still relentless pet odor.

Now that we have a bigger place and the ability to vent, the smell is almost non-existent. I have plug-ins in the living room for guests who aren't expected to stay long, or who were expected at all, and that seems to help with the few visitors who come over and are not dog poeple.

For the most part everyone who comes to my house knows about my two hairy kids and can deal with it if they want to come into our home in the first place.

Also, I dunno about anybody else's dogs but mine smell better the more they get to go outside. In the winter time for example they seem to smell more than in the summer when we are outside all the time.
