Pet-co/mart (you know the names) stories

So there is a big dichotemy between smart and co.  IMHO I go to the following Big Box stores if I absolutely HAVE to.  I prefer local stores here in Parker, CO (also listed for Colorado / Denver residents)

    Petco: Crickets / superworms.

Fish & Fishfood: PetCo.  I absolutely WILL NOT buy fish from petsmart.  I have had three outbreaks in my tanks - two were from smart, 1 was from a "clean" tank off of craigslist (my bad for trusting).

    Dog Food: Neither

Dog Toys: PetSmart - they are always cheaper for some reason here in Parker.

Dog Training: Neither - once when in petco in Aurora, CO, a staffer told me "My pitbull shouldn't really be in a store with other dogs unless he's really well trained".  Drake is not a pitbull!  I don't even think he looks like one!  Even if he was - he SHOULD as a puppy be getting socialized to other dogs so that he is less prone to eat them!  Petsmart staffers often tell me to "use a variety of training treats, like the raw diet tube stuff" which is fine, but I told them I train with cooked bits of chicken - they told me that was probably bad for my dog!  I then walked to the dog food isle and pointed out "chicken meal, chicken pieces, lamb meal, etc"...

    MY PREFERRED vendors:

Reptiles (here in Denver - we have a beardie): Scales n' tails (www.scalesntails.com)

    Fish - Todd's Tropical Fish

Dog Food / Treats / Most toys / Grooming - Four Paws Pet Bakery (http://fourpaws.t83.net/)

    Daycare - City Bark Parker

Training - Lisa Siccles - WagWag enterprises (http://www.wagwag.net/)

eeeeehhhh although I know most pet stores are bad, and I don't shop at major ones, I don't particularly trust PETA and their ways of doing things

    Me either.

Petsmart Charities is a wonderful group though - we do adoptions out of their facility every weekend, and petsmart sends us a check based on the number of adoptions we do. We also get promotional items for adopters - bags of food, coupons, etc. As a rescue group - they treat us VERY well.

To their credit, PetSmart is pretty dang good with adoptions.  Much better than Petco.  We actually Adopted Drake from a PetSmart after seeing him online.  And they had cheap prices on kennels too - I forgot that on my post.
