I'm the worst...

You didn't do anything on purpose!! Get her dieting and walking now.

My dog was 19 lbs when I adopted her and she's only a Chihuahua/Min Pin. Can you imagine? Her stomach literally touched the ground. Her ideal weight is 10-11 lbs.

I tried reducing her regular dog food she was on but it really didn't work. I got WD (weight management) and took her for walks which she loves.

The weight came off and she feels so much better. When I first brought her home (last July) she could barely walk a few steps, now we go for nice walks and she loves it!

If you do get WD (and ask your vet what he thinks because it worked well for my dog and one of my cats that gained weight from medication he was on) just keep one thing in mind: because of the high fiber content your dog will poop more than ever. Every time I took her out for a walk (3x a day) she pooped.

I saw great results with it though so it was worth it.

I took my dog off it and put her on regular dog food. This morning we were walking and noticed she looked like she was gaining a bit of the weight she lost - I'm off to the vet tomorrow for more WD. I do add a bit of canned food or vegetables for interest.

Try it and see what you think.

    That's fantastic.

She only poops once a day, maybe twice. I couldn't handle her going that much.

I had to reduce Charlie's food about a 1.5 years ago.  He eats 1/4 cup of food 2x a day.  With each meal I include 1/4 cup of thawed frozen green beans.  Since then he's been able to maintain a trim 19 lbs down from 25!

I found this picture online... has to be fake but if not, this is really bad: http://www.dogdailynews.com/2009/11/07/calling-all-fat-dogs/ I guess the moral here is that food is not love, food is just fuel!

OMG... Astra eats a little less then 1/2 cup of food split into 2 meals a day... She's only 5 1/2 lbs.
