Ok -- Fairy Dust aside (Callie/Tink)

We've got something going on.  I"m an optimist and I've put this HERE in "general chat" -- NOT under health (please heaven ....)

Tink's acting funky -- she's just plain "off".  She's eating -- but not as fast as she was.  She finishes her plate but she's dead last every time -- NOT normal.

She's not as active -- she's not hassling Luna.  (BIG red flag)

She's not racing to her crate to "win" (we have this strange little "who's gonna be FIRST?" game that she and Billy love to play).  She's just plain acting "off".  I saw it about Friday.  David finally REALLY saw it this morning (first he's fed them since Friday).  NOW it's vet time.

She's gonna see Dr. DiNatale (holistic TCVM) vet tomorrow night -- but just cos I usually wear both suspenders and a belt I've also made an appt for her to have fecal, bloodwork and urinalysis Wednesday a.m. as well.  Likely Whatever Dr. B finds will just confirm whatever Dr. D finds.  But having both of the interested in my dog is not a bad thing.

If she's healthy as a horse then I'll look at attitude.  But she tends to be transparent like Billy is.  It  doesn't take much for either of them to be convinced they are SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO POOOORLYY!!!!!  I'm DYIN!!!!! FEEL SORRY FOR ME!!! --

But at the same time -- I caught Billy's IMHA on just such a weird "Ok, my dog isn't acting right let's draw blood".

Good thots and prayers please?  Now - maybe it's for my dog.  And maybe --- HOPEFULLY it's just the "Mom" who is over-reacting??  If so, I'll gladly wear that hat.  But to be perfectly honest -- I really don't need to re-invent any new diseases this year?  We really don't need to get "good" at anything dire??  I'd settle for a plain old hard-to-see UTI or something??? *sigh*

Sending good thoughts and prayers that it's nothing at all or nothing serious.  I too would rather spend the time and money and be wrong than not catch something early.

Good thoughts that it turns out to be worried mommy syndrome or something that is not a big deal :)

Fingers crossed for worried mommy syndrome!

The pollen here is a beeyotch this year - maybe pollen sensitivity? Allergies? Something relatively benign and environmental?

    • Gold Top Dog

Prayers and healthy vibes for BOTH of you!

As someone who's just recently been down the worried mom road, I so hope it's nothing.  I am thinking it could be allergies or the pollen in the air.

    • Gold Top Dog

Fingers crossed that it's nothing to worry about.

     Good luck!

Those little rosepetal ears can be a real source of problems -- and she's a demodex dog so "skin" is always a concern.  I really was expecting her to blow out with allergies this year (just because she's crap bred) but *iknock wood* so far so good.

BUTthe ears on and off have been 'hot' and the holistic vet and I have kept after them big time.  The ONLY thing I can really specifically say -- her ears aren't hot to the touch - BUT just beyond the ear flaps -- like on the skull where the *inner* ear would be -- THAT is warm.

So the first place I'm gonna have them look is deep in the ears for a bacterial infection.  No head-shaking no evidence of yeast and no real 'smell' like I would generally associate with bacteria -- but it could be something I'm not familiar with.

A deep ear infection is gonna give her a headache and could sure account for all of the above big time. Dr. DiNatale is usually danged scarey -- she can sniff an ear infection usually right on the money

We've futzed with ear stuff for several weeks -- been "on" it but I'm too well acquainted with deep bacterial infections and I'd really rather not give one room to inflame for a long time.  It would be an easy fix relatively speaking.

But I'll tell ya -- it was this same sort of "feelnig" - absolutely without any "sign" of illness at all that I took Billy in 4 years ago and dang ... we wound up with IMHA.

It kinda makes me adamant that I don't care how foolish I look -- whoever thinks you "can't teach an old dog new tricks" just ain't got it figgered -- THIS old dog (me ... female dog??? *grin*) is still learning as she goes.

It's funny -- I was thinking taking her to one or the other of the vets -- and David said "no -- do both".  LOL -- cos BOTH of us old dogs are still "learning" and trying to get ahead of the game.

I was talking to one of my boss's clients today -- and he knows we took Tink when she was real sick and I just made the comment to him that's "what we do" -- we take on dogs with challenges and not only try to get them better but then try to help other folks figure out how they can treat stuff like this and keep it "do-able'.

So this guy says to me "So .... all those vet bills -- do you have to PAY all those vet bills?  I mean -- why would you DO that .... when you could just get a HEALTHY dog ?????"

You know -- I just laughed and said "But hey - it's what we do" -- and the man walked away shaking his head.

Yep -- most of the world thinks we're crazy.  Mebbe we are.  But what was it Alice said "Yes, you are ... totally mad!  But ... I have it on the best authority that most of the BEST people ARE you know!!"

So .... *looking around* ... I'm in really good company here cos you guys are just plain the finest folks I know!  Thanks!

Willow and I are sending all our good luck at BOTH vet vibes and hoping it's nothing.  But, I definately know where your mind is going with this.

I always say that we owners know our animals waaay better than our vets.  We see and interact with them every day and therefore know when the least little thing is off. If you think something isn't right, then that's probably the case.

Here's hoping everything will be back to normal soon and that Tink is on the mend ASAP!
