Nope. Not a trick question.  Kinda wish it were.........

I joined ancestry.com and have been trying to get the facts of my family straightened out because nobody else has (and kept up with it).  

Ruth and Eliza are the mothers of my maternal Grandfathers parents !  Wrap your mind around that !

 My maternal grandfather's parents were Vernon and Lydia.  Vernon was the son of Ruth and Lydia was the daughter of Eliza.  Vernon and Lydia were second cousins.  

That creeps me out just a little.

When I was a kid, the story was that they were first cousins.  We all joked about how that "explained a lot"   

How does someone get "removed" from a family?  let alone twice?  Is that divorce?

It's all very confusing to me........wiki has a chart...I may have to fill that in with names to get a better grasp of this.

Me too!  Lawdy, yes!!

I call my uncle's ex-stepkids my cousins.  They are still very close to my uncle, all of them lived with him at some point during their college years, even after he and their mom divorced.  I actually prefer to have them as family, even though they really aren't, than I do some of the people I am actually blood related to, lol.

Please, my step-sister has children with her step-brother.  Granted, the children came before her mother and his father decided to hook up/get married, and since then his father sadly passed away and my step-sister has since left the guy and married a new man.  But her kids are still some kind of convoluted legally-inbred thing, I suppose.
