A definite leap of faith (Callie -- NOT my leap!)

OK! Someone tell me the secret. I tried to upload pictures and they do not appear on my profile. I loaded two others there so I have no idea what happened! Callie I will email you the pics since you seem to have the touch!

I could see this cutie being a therapy dog for childrens' hospitals? Couldn't you?  Kids' books could be written about him.
Wonder if there is anyone out there looking for jus such a dog?

Can't take him in myself, but if anyone in Massachusetts adopts him, therapy dog class is free;-)

Here are three pics of Angel. He is such a sweet boy! Today he came with me while I picked up a new rescue dog and met up with the person who's fostering. He let everyone hold him and he was a calm as can be. His only frustration is trying to get around and play with the other dogs here. I got the info from the people who will make his cart and have to measure him tomorrow when someone is around to help me. I will keep everyone posted on how things go and continue to post pictures. I asked a friend if he could take video and am waiting to hear back. You have to see him walk backwards on his hind legs. He has trouble going forward but he seems to get better every day. I can't wait until he gets his wheels and can be a regular dog!

    Trying to send you instructions

Good morning! Angel just finished his breakfast and did his morning toilette and is now hanging with his peeps. He just amazes me with the spirit in that tiny body. Hope all of you are having a great day!

Ok -- finally got this accomplished!!!

Too sweet!! Look at thos ears!

Look at those ears!!  What a cutie, isn't he??

    What a good sit!

And we take getting a drink so for granted!!

They are getting him fitted for a cart.  I have the Rescue's address -- if anyone wants it let me know.  I'll ask AJ to stop by and tell about the cart and if they had any trouble getting one small enough.

Thanks, Callie! This boy amazes me. Really. It's WORK for him to get to the water bowl but he is determined to do what he wants to do. When I'm walking around the house doing chores he tries to follow me. Of course, by the time he gets to the laundry room, I've finished folding and am off to put things away. My impulse is to pick him up and carry him everywhere, but he does need to develop his hind leg muscles to help him when he gets his cart.

Ah, the cart! Several of us searched the net for options. I even checked with Texas A&M Vet School's rehab department. They seems to only do rear carts. Finally we found Eddie's Carts in Shelburne Falls Massachusetts. They do both. I emailed them asking if it were possibe for them to do a cart for a dog in Texas or if customers had to bring the dog into their facility. YIPPEE! They do carts without in-person measuring. They emailed me the info and I got the reply within two hours! That has to be a record. They included a guide to measure Angel here and send to them, The cost of a rear cart is $375 plus $35 shipping which seems reasonable to me. They also give a 10% discount to rescues which makes me like them more. With his routine vet needs, shots and neutering, that brings his costs to about $600. Neither Rita nor I care and we both believe we'll find a way. This is a mission for me. I feel I've been given care of a treasure and I am honored. Angel will get the best care possible. Rita and I both believe rescues are for helping the dogs who get overlooked and end up on death row because they cower in the corner terrified or are a bit older or they have a physical disablility. If we can help them find loving forever homes we are doing what we were meant to do.

OK, I will get off my soapbox. It's way too early to be up on a weekend and I've not had my coffee so I am probably incoherent! :) I'll keep everyone posted and if you have question, just email me. I'll be happy to let you know how this adventure goes.HUGS to all!

I'm glad to see more pics of him! I hope he adjusts to the cart well!

I live at just about the other end of the state, north of Dallas, about 2 towns away from the Red River. And I have made it to my in-laws, between Houston and Austin in 4 hours, with me and DW stopping for potty breaks, with one of them being a gas break (because I like to fill up when I get down to half a tank.) My weekends are free, except for this coming Saturday, when we will be visiting some friends near Buffalo, Texas. Anyway, if you ever need a transport, pm me or, if you like, I will pm you my email, etc. Also, Callie has my cell number. I have volunteered before.

That was one trip for the Southeastern States Rottweiler Rescue and took two legs. From Dallas to Sulphur Springs and Sulphur Springs to Texarkana. And, actually, the transfers took place in Lancaster, south of Dallas and New Boston, west of Texarkana.

AJ,  I just found the link to Eddie's Wheels--I didn't know about them! Thank for you sharing what you've found.

     http://www.eddieswheels.com/index.html

There's a great section about the front end carts with two fosters-Willa and Webster. There are also pictures of 3 chi's with their front end carts. And, he even makes skis to add to the cart wheels for winter walks! OK-you probably won't need those in Texas.

    • Puppy

We better not need skis in Austin! If so I am moving to the Valley! After growing up in Mass I will be happy to never see snow again.

This afternoon Angel and I went to a friend's and they took some video of him. As soon as he emails it to me I will upload it for all to see. He said he was putting it on YouTube as well so Angel will be quite the media star.

This should take you to a video of Angel playing with one of mine, Yoda the tiny black Chihuahua and Lily, the white Shepherd that owns the friends who took the video. Angel gets around really well in the yard, but not so well in the house. I think when he hops in the house ir hurts him to land on his chest. He will only walk on his back legs in the house and he's not good at that. I can't wait to get his cart and take him for a walk!

He sleeps in the with me and just curls up next to me with Mijo and Ginger. He is getting along very well with them; they're his size. The three of them play together on the couch, again because he doesn't seem to like the wood floor. He's also a big kisser!

    Enjoy the video

He's really developed his own style of locomotion - I'm thrilled he's so determined.

When we had Pollyanna (the little female with the broken back) I put carpet runner all thru the house on my wood floors -- it helped her a great deal cos she hated slippery floors too.
