    some little dog owners...jeeez...

i know not all owners of small dogs are like this, i would never let jake act like this:

emma and i were walking in the park the other day and we saw a man with a little dog.  of course emma wanted to play with it so i asked the man if his dog was friendly toward other dogs.  the man didnt answer me but brought his dog right over to emma and it attacked her without hesitation!!  i pulled emma away from the other dog but the man didnt even pull his agressive dog away, he was just standing there smiling!!  emma and i just left.  what an a**hole!!

Unfortunately some people just think it's cute for little dogs to do that. What they don't stop and think about is a little dog can do some serious damage the same way a bigger dog can.

Sally has had two little dogs get up in her face and bark like they are going to kill her. Thankfully she just takes it in stride--she just sits there and gets this "Yeah, you and what army?"look on her face.

I read something in one of my dog books that I wish every small dog owner would follow. It said to pretend that your little dog is 90 lbs. If you would not allow a behavior from a 90 lb dog, do not allow it from your little dog.

    I'm glad Emma is OK.

Oh wow thats crazy. Hope she did not get hurt? What a sick person!

another thing they dont think about is what if emma retaliated ?  his dog could have seriously injured as well and i probably would have been found at fault simply because emma was the larger dog.

no, emma wasnt hurt except maybe her feelings.

Yeah that is true my dog almost got attack a few ago  by another dog when I was at the dog park. When the dog refused to come back to him he yells oh don't worry she is  not mean.

Well I know my dog is not mean. But then again  how does he? And if she was she could had done some major damange too his dog. People are just stupid I guess....

I've had many instances where a small dog tried to bite my larger dogs unprovoked.  Each time, the small dog owner thought it was funny or cute.  They are very lucky that my dogs didn't retaliate, but I guarantee if they did, the person would press charges against my "aggressive" big dog.  People don't understand that size/age doesn't matter in the dog world.

That's a great rule. Jessie is a 65 pound Shepherd mix. Once when we were walking in a park an off leash chihuahua(sp?) ran up and tried to bite her on the legs. Jessie stood there and looked at us like,"Will somebody teach this dog how to behave?" The owners thought it was funny. There have been a few occasions when we were in line at PetsMart and smaller dogs tried to bite her. The guy that let his dog attack Emma was a real jerk; I don't know if I could have been as cool as you were and just walked away without saying anything.

anything i had to say would be wasted on someone like that and probably just make me more upset.
i mean, he totally knew his dog would attack emma, what can you possibly say to someone like that?

The next time you go to the park, take along a digital camera.  Take a shot of this idiot and his little terrorist and see if he's in a car.  Get his license plate.  Call the police and let them know how you feel.  It is NOT OK for this to happen.

i dont know if i ll ever see him again but thats a good idea in case, or if anything like that ever happens again.

I myself was menaced like that (without my dog in attendance) and I very firmly told the cruddy/ignorant/twit owner "You are going to get yourself SUED if you don't control your dog." It was like a glass of water in the face, he didn't see the 'cuteness' of the situation anymore and in fact got nasty.  My  reply while leaving  was "Save it for a judge."   The 'man' shot back "Oh, you a hotshot lawyer?" and I said "No, but I can afford one!"   I think even his thick head got it loud and clear.  I hope he didn't see me shaking like a leaf!  Jules
