rw-we had some MAJOR excitement last night

    Gina, I think that all kids have a normal curiosity about fire.

    Our eleven year old, who is the one who does have impulse control, tried to "help" us burn some wet leaves after a snow earlier this month.  Since they were wet, he employed the help of bbq lighter fluid, & a candle lighter.  To his defense, he did get the leaves burning, but he almost gave everyone a heart attack in the process.

    I am glad it wasn't far worse, Gina.

    Honestly, I am totally terrified of fire, almost to the point of phobia-like fear.  I cannot even light a match or a regular lighter.  Many years ago, as a  child, I had the schoolbus bully light my long hair on fire.  Fortunately a quick-thinking older friend stopped it immediately.  Had another incident where a kid tried to burn me with the flaming end of his stick we were using to toast marshmallows.  (I was about 7).

    As an adult, my ex-h caused fires in two different houses we had because of his drunken stupid a$s.  The first involved a woodstove.  Had our dogs not woken us up, we all would have died - including my son, who was an infant at the time.  Second time was a grease fire.  He forgot the pan was on and went with me and son to walk the dogs.  The thing flashed over and poof - less than 10 minutes destroyed the kitchen and caused major smoke damage throughout the apartment.

    I totally understand how scared you were.

    Wow Gina! I'm glad everyone is okay. Those feelings Eli may have had at grandmas house are abour right. I had the same after I broke my sisters arm. My mom took her to the hospital while I waited at a neighbors house. It was a total accident, but I thought it was my fault and thought I'd be in so much trouble and she'd never be able to come home.

    Did I ever tell you about the time Lily (the dog) started a fire? I had left a plastic container of cookies on top of the burner of our gas stove. I went to take a shower and never thought twice about it. My shower was interrupted by the smoke alarm. I jumped out, wrapped my towel around me and ran into the kitchen to find the plastic container on fire. The fire making it's way up my cupboards. I turned the burner off and sprayed it down with the faucet hose all the while calling 911.

    Lily had decided that the cookies smelled really good and wanted to get a closer sniff. Doing so she jumped so her front paws must have pushed in & turned the burner on. Lesson learned. To this day I NEVER put anything on a burner if it dosn't belong there. I now have an electric stove with the knobs out of reach!

    Gina, OMG!  I am so glad you guys are ok.  More validation;

    At age 3 my granddaughter put a tennis shoe in a candle....at my house...while she was supposed to be asleep!  Her mom couldnt sleep so she was in the living room with me.  Heard her say....Grandma c'mere!   Well we thought she was doing the whole gammit of , gotta pee, thirsty, read me a story but lo and behold the curtains were on fire.  I got it out myself before loosing anything besides my sanity.  This grandchild is now 18 and in the Army,lol!  Her sister at age 4 set my fridge on fire.  Was trying to burn a piece of paper held there by a fridge magnet this time with a lighter and while I was not home.  So see....it's not just boys and some times they wait til they get to Grandma's to play with fire :)
