It's that time of year!

But I did make sure no breakable ornaments are low

I learned my lesson on that!  The kitties discovered that they could "swing" on all of my pretty glass balls!  Needless to say, they all ended up broke!  I really don't know which is worse...  The cats or the dogs!!  It's a close race!

Last Christmas Zipper didn't live with us...the two girls didn't mark the tree (well, Shimmer never would, I wondered about Gaci but she never tried it). My mother always put an x-pen around her tree, so Zipper never had the opportunity, so it'll be interesting to see what conspires.

I haven't been here in awhile and I don't have any advice about the tree but....

CryingRocky died??? He was one of my favorite i-dogs! Crying I'm soo sorry! RIP Rocky...

No advice on peeing, but, make sure any food ornaments are HIGH UP ON THE TREE....about 4 years ago, my parents had a golden named Sammi...for christmas, a girl my dad works with (who has a crush on him...but, don't worry, my dad is the cookie cutter country"stand by your wife no matter what attention you get" type of guy) made him a christmas ornament out of gumdrops and marshmallows.  My dad, not thinking, threw it on the tree.  Sammi went into the game room (where the tree was) and came back out immediately...my brother and I were suspicious, so we went to check it out...nothing but an ornament hook left...I was pretty impressed that the hook was right there untouched.

Casey has never tried anything  with the tree... neither have any fosters I've had over the years. I guess they (thankfully!) know the difference between trees IN the house, and trees outside (we've got fake palm trees inside too... it is FL haha). The cats like to sleep under the skirt...Confused

My parents' cats luuurve the Christmas tree.  Lily likes to walk around underneath it and investigate all the presents.  (The aptly named) Noel really likes to climb up in the tree.  Sometimes you'll find her snoozing halfway up the tree laying on the branches, lol.  They have always had fake trees for this reason (so the cats don't kill it), and I have a fake tree, too, which may be why I've not had an issue with the boys trying to pee on it.

ETA: The ex pen went up last night so I can not worry about Sammy messing with it anymore.  He was quite upset and gave me the stink eye a few times, lol.  But, I can leave the house now without fretting he'll get himself into trouble.  And, it really doesn't look too bad.  It's gold, so it kinda looks nice and sparkly when I turn the tree lights on.

Yeah, my baby boy died.  I still tear up when I think about him.  He was my best buddy and I miss him dearly.  I know he is in a better place but the greedy bone in me wishes he was still here.

That didn't stop Dipper last year!!  He peed on it anyway!  It was one of those 7 foot tall, EXPENSIVE ones too!

I forgot that the presents were supposed to go Under the tree!  My cats enjoy the ripping sounds of paper and they will unwrap every one of the presents!  I have to keep the gifts locked up until Christmas morning!

    • Gold Top Dog

Oh, Dipstick, you are a character!! Stick out tongue

Yeah, my gifts sat on the dining room table until I got the ex pen, once I realized Sammy wanted to unwrap them all.  My parents' cats don't try to rip the paper, but inevitably there will be a few on Christmas morning with holes in them from a kitty paw poking through it while walking on the gifts.  Oh, yeah, and usually about half the bows will be laying on the floor from the cats pulling them off the packages.  They're so cute, though, how can you get mad at those faces?!

I don't put them on the gifts!  They NEVER stay stuck to the presents!  I'll hear the cats running around the house and usually, one of them has a bow either in his mouth or stuck to his fur!  It's sad!  I cannot even decorate my house the way I want to!  These animals are bound and determined to be "Scrooge"!!

Crusher hates wearing a Santa hat.  He's behind a baby gate away from the tree most of the day, but at night I let him into the living room if I'm in there.  Any time he goes near the tree, I rush over and start stuffing a Santa hat on his head.  He's figured it out.  I wouldn't try it with Onyx though.  She is not picky about the attention she recieves and would likely just do it more often.

They should make something that shakes the tree and moans by remote or something.  That would keep Onyx away...hmmmm....***wanders off in thought***

That's a good idea!!  You start coming up with the plan and we'll get a patent put on it!  I think something like that would really help!  Now, what to use?!!

We used to go to a local Christmas tree farm and cut one down when the boys were small.  Every farm we went to had at least three or four dogs running around Smile so most likely all the trees were peed on at one time or another.  Our dogs can probably smell that.  A few years ago I switched to a 7-1/2 ft. pre-lit tree and I seriously think the reason Max doesn't bother it or go near any of the other decorations that he can reach is because of the repellent spray which I use liberally every morning. No sense in taking chances. Big Smile

Oh no!  I want a real tree this year!  Knowing my luck, Dipstick will pee on it before I even get it set up!  I think he does it just to tell Brownie "I saw it first"!!  He's such a goober!

For sure real trees smell so much nicer, but on the upside for artificial ones, you won't be vacuuming up pine needles from under the sofa in July. Big Smile
