First of all, 600 is "three times more than the usual" amount of animals euthanized there. So really, their monthly average is 200. According to their facebook, they take in over 600 animals a month on average. So about 1/3 of their animals are euthanized?
Seems like a pretty normal number for a lot of shelters, unfortunately. I like that everyone has so many ideas on ways shelters can lower euthanasia numbers and up live-release rates. Everyone should go get up and help shelters do it, instead of posting on forums saying "they should be doing this, they should be doing that" and otherwise critiquing and insulting them.
Shelters need everyone's help. Millions of homes are looking to get additional animals every year, but unfortunately they choose adoption infrequently. We shouldn't be patronizing shelters for 'not doing enough' but helping them do everything they can, and helping them get adopters into their door. I'm not saying there aren't crappy shelters out there with uncaring employees, because there definitely are, and they are definitely in need of critique. But insulting shelters who *do* try and blaming employees for euthanasia rates isn't helpful if you aren't out there doing your part as well.
