Good vibes for Kenya

I hope Kenya continues to feel better.

Sassy is one that'll chew up anything she can get her teeth on. Just last night I dropped a cloth eyeglass holder on the floor and before I could blink, she was chewing it up. She's approx. 9 or 10, so you'd think this behavior would've stopped by now, but it hasn't :(

    That's so scary ...

Oliver does things like that ... he'll chew on anything, though mostly he spits out the pieces...

Here's hoping she continues to show no ill effects.

WOW...that would scare the crap outta me.  Hope Kenya has no adverse side effects from the drug.

    Positive vibes for Kenya.

Ditto!  Every time people say what big chewers Dobe puppies are, I am eternally thankful that G was never like that.  Kim, I would crap a brick if I came home to my dog vomiting glass from a lightbulb they ingested.

Kenya, sweet pea, you need a little R&R, but being doped up on meds is not the way to do it.  Hope you feel back to normal with no side-effects in no time.  Hugs to Lies.... what a rough time you've had.

    Kenya, you silly girl!

I have started crating my guys again- different reasons, but I, too, feel like it's just smarter and safer tonot have to worry about the what-if's.

    How is she doing now?

I also had to start crating Emma, again. At 6 years, she's decided that climbing and plundering are good mid-afternoon boredom killers. I worry that I'll come home and find her injured or worse, so she's crated.

I'm glad that Kenya is going to be ok, and hope she doesn't mind being crated, too much. Emma didn't seem bothered, at all, when I started asking her to go in before work.

The main difference is the cause of the anxieties....some dogs are just incapable of handling the "big job" of making their own social decisions....and they fail miserably when they try to make those decisions.

The compulsion, I find, is not a separation anxiety compulsion or stress.....it's not the fact that you left that causes them to be stressed, it's the fact that you are not there and the dog has to decide how to pass the time on its own......it no longer has its owner to rely on for decisions to made for them......big difference, and both come with their own challenges. Dogs like Shimmer (and I'm guessing Kenya) thrive when they don't have to make those decisions, so a kennel becomes a safe place because they know their choices have been isolated, and that "need" that they need to fulfill when they have freedom is fulfilled for them, so it's relaxing and calming for them. Kind of like dogs needing a "job" to do, these dogs need to know that they don't have to face the stressful task of decision-making, which is why crating often works so well.

I'm glad that she's doing well today.
