I just got a call with a possible sighting on County Road 18 in Lewiston ... that is the right area. She said it was a tan dog, didn't get to look if it had grey on its back and that it "looked lost" She saw my ad after and regretted not stopping for it. As I feared, she said that she didn't expect a husky to look like that ... I wonder if I should have advertised him as a mixed breed. I passed in on to the two contacts I have in the area ... what else should I do with this info? I wish I could go drive down that road RIGHT NOW. darn it.

     Thanks for the messages everyone.

     Well, that's good news right?

Here's hoping there are more sightings, and the next person stops for him...

    • Gold Top Dog

The VERY good news is that IF it is him, when she slowed her car, he did begin to approach her. My biggest fear has been that he'll remain in flight/panic mode and be uncatchable. Also, that area in Lewiston is where my automated phone calls went to.

The second good thing is the another nice minnesotan emailed me and has volunteered to post more fliers and post & ride the trails in the Southern state forest where he could be missing on horseback.

His owner is taking this far more gracefully than I could ever have.

I think it's good news that he did start to approach the woman and assuming it's him, he should be pretty hungry.  Has anyone set up a feeding station in the area?  You might pm Julie (Jewelee) for some tips on that if it's not been set up already.  Fingers crossed that he comes to someone soon.

I just want to pass on some ideas for your consideration.

You may be able to borrow a live trap from Animal Ark, set it up with liver and other smelly appealing treats, IF you can figure out where he is within a few miles. The folks at Animal Ark have live traps they do lend out. Last I knew, they handle their live traps through their thrift store, so you could try that first. (651) 772-8983. One obstacle is that the shop is in St. Paul, but I'm betting someone from the cities who is volunteering to help might bring it down to the area. Bigger obstacle is that the trap will need to be checked often overnight if it will be cold outside, so the dog doesn't get hypothermic inside it.

Meanwhile, in the daylight hours, if some of your searchers could carry some good-smelly food with them it might attract him more quickly. We were told that liver scents travel quite far.

You've probably thought of all this, but I'm just thinking back to the early days when we were looking for a dog who went missing this time last year, and the things we were trying to get in place or ready to use "just in case".

Hudson WI animal control also has a live trap they lend out, but I'm not sure how far they will let it travel. I believe it is big enough for a 50-pound dog, if I recall correctly. Again, someone would have to pick it up and return it. (715) 386-4771

Perhaps some animal shelter or authority closer to where you are would lend some items, like slip collars for searchers to carry, treats or food, live traps. They did recommend we set up a feeding station AND this one they said...

It is important - if you can get in the general vicinity of where the dog has been, leave something out with it's owners' or at least a familiar scent on it - a jacket or the dog's blanket or hay the dog has slept on or something warm would be great.

I realize you think this might be over before those items could be shipped to the searchers, but in case this goes on for days and days, think about what you want to use, if time were no object, and have someone get it to you. (I wish I were closer so I could come and help search. I am in Michigan right now.)

I'll post other links and ideas as I think of them. I will go through my old notes and see what other contacts we were making.

Is there a better place to get this info to you, than here? I've noticed this seems to have some updated info, thus why I'm posting here. I also e-mailed you through Craigslist (I'm the one who thought I might be able to find the police officer with the tracking dog - but that didn't pan out) however, the woman is letting some friends in the area where the dog was lost, so you might hear from them as volunteers too. Keep getting the word out and ask for what you need. People are amazing and will come out of the woodwork to try to help in situations like this, as you are already finding out!

I'm keeping Godzilla and all the searchers in my thoughts and prayers, and sending "stay safe" and "stay close" vibes to him!!!

The above is not meant as advice - I'm surely no expert - but just passing along ideas we were given early in our search for your consideration. Certainly; depending on what else is going on in the area - traffic; people; etc. - will determine if any of the ideas are feasible or safe; etc.

Consider getting word to nearby Whitewater State Park so the park employees can bet watching out, putting up posters, flyers, hikers could be on the lookout for Godzilla.

Thanks for all the suggestions ... I truly appreciate it.

You can email me at info@dogslednh.com... I never got your Craigslist email, I don't think though I've emailed hundreds of people back at this point... There is a woman from the LaCrea Humane Society who posted fliers yesterday and is going out to the area of the sighting today to post more. She has live traps if needed. He is food motivated so she's on that and she brings a quiet older dog with her too.

Thankfully, this is a dog equipped to handle cold, he is from Alaska, has lived outside and trained in extreme temps dogsledding so I am not worried about weather so much as him staying put.

I am in agony not being in Minnesota right now .... he's right around there... he's been seen twice today on the highway :( one mile east of the enterprise rest stop on the same side as the rest stop. He has crossed the highway at least twice now. He's obviously searching for his family now that he's got his wits about him again and it's killing me. Right now the woman from the humane society is there and a second person, the one who was going to use horses has gone out to look.

Please please cross fingers for a good outcome.

I am sending "Godzilla, go to a person and come home vibes"

    • Gold Top Dog

Oh, I hope he quits crossing that highway.  Those people are ANGELS and I am praying they can catch him today.

I'm in Minnesota a too far north of the area to hop in the car on a whim.........but I did just read on the MnDOT website that this particular rest stop was recently renovated and now has a pedestrian bridge.  I cannot find any other information about the layout of the rest stop.  I would love to know what that bridge connects.

Stay put Godzilla.  Let yourself be caught by the people.  THey are nice and only want to help you.

    • Gold Top Dog

I've been following this thread, keeping my fingers crossed and sending good vibes.  Godzilla, please please let yourself be caught and returned to people who know and love you!

Cautiously optimistic. The woman from the Albert Lea Humane Society ... she caught a dog that matches his description.

It was intense ... she called me on the phone as she was following himand he just wouldn't come to her, she followed him by car east down interstate 90 and he physcially collapsed with exhaustion after many miles before she was able to get him. She's trying to get him rehydrated now, his legs were spasming with cramps that's how over heated he was... the collar is green and my boyfriend thought it was blue. She going home (80 miles) and taking a picture to email us and we'll email his owner.

Please cross your fingers this is him.
