My vet is very generous and ethical so that saves a bunch. She often tosses in a freebie or two. I don't rountinely take in stool samples to test for parasites. If a dog has a tummy problem I will sometimes just take a stool sample to the vet while waiting for an appointment. We've never found parasites, so they've never been wormed except for the monthly HW preventative. I have a dental pick and scrape a bit here and there. Between that and bones, their teeth are fine. We don't need flea meds.
I shop at grocery stores that offer discounted meats when they are close to expiration. Other people shop at the mall the days after Thanksgiving and X-Mas, I buy turkeys. No canned food and I make their jerky and other treats. I use human supplements most of the time. I can often find what I want at the Walgreen's buy one get one free sales.
I've cut way back on buying dog books. Many are available at the library.
When the dog savings account gets low, I get a second job. I've never had to pay for anything on credit.
