why dogs legs kick when you rub the belly?

Hrm, that is an interesting theory....I read once that when you rub a dog above the tail that sets off a similar thing because that's there the male dog rests his chest during copulation.  At least I know if I scritch Nikki there she stands there with her nose up in the air and her eyes half closed [8|]  But then again my male dog does it too, so I'm not sure.  I read it in Desmond Morris's DogWatch I believe.

Intresting.....Bruno doesn't seem to do that when I rub his belly. He just sort of lays there all relaxed.[:)]

Lordy could you imagine tickling people and they uncontrollably pantomimed a sex act??? We wouldn't be able to tickle our children anymore, and you would have to be 18 to be tickled on the tummy. Just a weird thought.

Interesting indeed. Brown kicks his back leg when he's sitting down and I scratch his chest. Grey's never really kicked his leg, but he practically drops to the ground when I scratch his neck and chest. He's completely uncoordinated and can't scratch himself to save his life, so the only itch relief he has is me. lol

Hmmm.  Now Max puts his head back, closes his eyes and goes into a little doggy trance every time we meet someone who's willing to scratch his ears.[:D]

I can't say that I agree with that concept.  IMHO it would make more sense that you've hit a "ticklish" (or itchy) spot and it's an instinctive reaction to scratch the stimulated area - either due to irritation or pleasure.   If it were copulation related, it wouldn't make sense that only one leg would kick, because they don't kick their back legs in copulation - those would be firmly planted until a tie, and then only lifted so the dog could turn around.  And the trigger to do that is not external!

I've had dogs do it when I pulled ear hair, LOL. I'm going to *guess* that isn't a sexual spot!

Both Sofia and Athena only do the leg thump when their skin is too dry. If their skin is healthy they don't have any tickle/thump spots.

I think the sexual G-spot thing is totally wrong.
