Baby gate help?

We use those gates, but luckily our dogs don't test them.  Right now, I sort of just prop them up and set something against one side.  Not great, but again, my dogs don't push on them.

I got this one at Target, it I think it was 15 oor 20 bucks.  As you can see the dogs can stand on it and it holds (though it wil fall if they push hard or slam it, but my dogs are 65lbs), even better if it's jammed in one of those door frames that has a lip on the inside.  It actually came with hardware to mount it permanently and use it like a swinging gate. 

 You need to move the hook up a couple notches if you're a half inch to short.  Put it in the doorway, hold it in place and then push the top rod down.  There will be pressure and it might feel like its going to 'spring' away from the gate itself, but it will hold itself in place with the prongs on either side once its locked into place.  Just play around with it until you get it to work. 

ETA: the rubber stoppers will pull the paint off the trim if there is any.  You might want to put something between them and the door frame, and make sure to take it down often.  At least that's a problem I've always had with ours.

I have one like that. It took me a while to figure it out, but the two horizontal bars in the middle pull apart at the end opposite the little clip link thing (it pivots at that end). Pull the top bar up and stretch the gate to fit in the doorway. Set the little clip link in a notch. Then push the top bar down so that it clips back on the lower bar; that creates the tension. It's kind of hard to explain. Am I making sense?

Hehe....we have one like that - and it is falling apart after may years of good use with dogs and kids. Try going up a notch or two - it's not going to fit perfectly, but tighening helps alot. I've got to get a new one to put across my room so the kittens can see/hear/smell the rest of the house until they're big enough to 'play' with Taz.
