• New VA Hospital...for dogs sandra_slayton Posted : 11/14/2008 1:06:28 AM I DID NOT CATCH THE WHOLE THING, BUT LOVED WHAT I DID GET. A STATE OF THE ART VETERINARIAN VA HOSPITAL IS BEING BUILT AT LACKLAND AFB IN SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS FOR MILITARY DOGS. I THINK THIS IS GREAT. THESE DOGS DESERVE TOP CARE IF INJURED IN THE LINE OF DUTY AND WHEN RETIRED WHEN WE PULLED OUT OF NAM, MOST OF THE MILITARY DOGS WERE ACTULLY KILLED THERE INSTED OF BEING BROUGHT BACK TO THE STATES. I THOUGHT THAT AWFUL. THOSE DOGS PUT THEIR LIVES ON THE LINE..AND THEN WERE ORDERED KILLED BY HGHER UPS. THEIR HANDLERS WERE CRUSHED. IT IS TIME DOGS WERE TREATED WITH THE RESPECT THEY DESERVE. • Bonita of Bwana Posted : 11/14/2008 12:38:48 PM Sandra I saw that report and agree it is an amazing  facility  and state of the art. The one dog they showed ( looked like a Mal) had been injured by a mine yet they rehabbed him and were able to send him back to the sand pit and his handler. He was happier going back and before thsi place he would have been PTS without question! Watching them strengthen his rear leg in rehab was really inpressive using a soft almost ball like surface they had his rear working to balance in an incredible feat of physical therapy!!
