When should I feed him?

    When should I feed him?

I'm starting to run/jog/walk Sam twice a day. 6am and 5pm. Should I feed him before his morning/evening run or after? And how much time should I wait before I run him/after I run him?

Here's what I do with mine.

I get up and let them out to potty around 7. Then they eat at 9. An hour or two later I take them walking. I feed them again at 4 and we go walking at 5. Since the time change that is.

I'm not sure if I'd be here after 7:30am. Could I take him on his run at 6, we'd be home at about 6:30-6:45.....could I feed him at 7:15?

Maybe in the morning when you take him walking you could take his food with you and work on whatever training you can while walking. I do that with Joker at night. He gets his supper on our nightly walks and I work on his heel, head up,leave it,come, etc.

I've got big breeds with deep chests.  I don't feed any meal within 1.5 hours of hard exercise, before or after.

I don't either. Even my little guy has to wait.  Sometimes it is hard schedule wise but I don't want to take a chance.

We're not doing hard exersize - run/jog a mile, and walk the 1.5 miles back home. Or is that 'hard exersize' I really don't know.....

This is an interesting article I just found.  It says that a slow walk can cause the stomach to start a pendulum type motion which can lead to the stomach flipping.  I haven't finished reading it but thought I'd post it for you to read.  There is of course controversy on the subject.  What a surprise.

I forgot to mention some thing - dry heving. He does that whenever he gets excited. I try to make him calm down, and no food for a while after words.....at first I thought it was kennel cough, I still kind of do....
