    Bike attachments

I am thinking of buying the Walkydog but am wondering what people think of that versus the Springer

I will be using this with a dog that is about 29" at the withers - not sure if that makes one or the other better.

Any experiential knowledge is appreciated - especially from those with large and tall dogs

    thanks

I don't know Karen.  It tells you that it can be used with either a collar or a harness, but that the harness increases the leverage the dog has on the bike.  So obviously pulling is a factor with it.  And with a dog as powerful as Bugsy, I'd want to eliminate that as much as possible.  MadDog(where is he by the way?) ran his dogs with the Springer, and from the videos he sent me, when one of them lunged, it barely effected the bike.  I know first hand how powerful a fully grown husky is when he lunges, so....

Plus the Springer has the option of running two dogs on the same side, and since you've talked about adding another into the family, that might be something to think about.  When I run my dogs, one at a time, since I don't have a springer or anything, I run them on the right side of me so that if we need to pass anyone, they are on the outside, plus the grass is normally only on one side.  That's probably the biggest factor about running two dogs on one or both sides that I would look at.

The fact that you can detatch the Walkydog and use it as a leash seems convenient, but honestly, how hard is it to have a little lead in your pocket for when you get off the bike.

All in all, I'd likely go with the Springer myself.

Thanks Candace - hopefully someone who has used the WalkyDog will chime in.  I kind of like the way it connects better but point taken about the lunging.

Not that B would ever lunge ha ha ha ha ha .....................

I have the WalkyDog on my bike right now.  It works great with Bevo, & Shooter, who are both content to run alongside the bike.  I can't use it, at all,  with Brinxx.  She likes to forge forward from time to time, & if she decides to take off, the WalkyDog does nothing to stop her.

DH has an attachment from pet edge on his bike right now.  He uses it for Brinxx, & has had nothing but good things to say about it.  He says that it doesn't completely buffer the pull, but it does make a very big difference in what he feels on the bike.  http://www.petedge.com/Guardian-Gear-ExPETdition-Bike-Attachment-ZW80633.pro

I had a Springer for quite a while before I crashed the bike into a ravine ruining both the bike & the springer.  I really liked it, & even before Bev learned that he wasn't supposed to lunge, it would easily absorb the shock.  If I were chosing between the WalkyDog, & the Springer, I would, hands down, buy the springer.

Thanks Amanda - going off to order the Springer LOL

Bugsy actually runs right next to the bike and has only lunged once that I recall but better safe than sorry!

We've been doing it at least once a week for several months now and yes he does love it - I wanted to make sure it was doable with him before investing in the attachment
