Oh man yeah they were shaking. It still amazes me how little blood there is whenyou do abdominal surgery! It is NOTHING like what is shown on TV - all the surgeons with bloody gloves and arms - if you have that much blood on you, you did something wrong! My instructor (nothing like a board-certified surgeon peering over your shoulder as you do your first spay) kept telling me "Kris, you're being too tentative! Come on, get in there! Break that suspensory ligament! Don't be tentative!" Easy for you to say, doc :)
The experience was also good because of the little things - like how we didn't give unnecessary prophylactic antibiotics since we did a sterile surgery (and very, er, rear-end-retentive sterile at that! if your gown even brushed against a cabinet or floor, you had to change it) Boo to unnecessary antibiotics! All the different fancy suture patterns are very neat as well. I don't have the calm stomach or emotional stamina to be a hardcore surgeon I think, but it is indeed very interesting
