Starting to Hate Walking Dogs (*Rant)

Ever since they re-paved our street (and did a really crappy job) I dread walking the dogs. Layla comes home with black tar all over her white fur. All around her paws and her legs. It's horrible! It doesn't happen with Abbie. I think it must be the way Layla walks or something, but it's almost impossible to get off and consequently they go to the groomer way more often that they should. Sometimes I snip it off with the shears, but she just got a hair cut and if I cut anymore off of her, she's going to look bad and blotchy. I love Goo Gone, but I don't think it's safe for use on animals. **We live on a cul-de-sac and there are no sidewalks for about 4 blocks, so unless I drive them to another area first to walk them, there's really no way to avoid it and I refuse to do that.

One more little gripe.... We have these things called "beggars lice" in the grass, sort of like hitch hikers, except they are small, green, half-moon shaped velvety things that get stuck all over Layla's legs so I spend half an hour after each walk picking them off of her. Again, Abbie rarely gets any on her. Some months are worse than others, May, June & July. Combing them out isn't an option because they get so stuck in her hair. She's got this "troll" type hair that everything sticks to, whereas Abbie's hair is more like human hair - silky.

Thanks for letting me vent..... :)

Orange oil works as well as Goo gone.  It's cheap (you can get an 8 oz bottle at a health store for like $5-$6).  Works great.

Hey, we have those little green things too!  Never knew what they were called.  They only stick to Indie's fur also.

Could you get some baby socks to put on her until you get off the new asphalt?  Would she tolerate something like that?  I hate when they repave around here, they use this new sprayed on grey stuff that stays sandy, sticky and pebbley forever, ends up sticking to dogs and cars alike.

I used Avon Skin So Soft when, after a walk, I noticed gum stuck in a paw.
