female dog = better pet ?

most people say that a female dog makes a calmer, more affectionate, and even more loyal ;pet.  does anyone have an opinion about this?

I don't agree with that at all.  My Rusty was my total heart dog.  Male.  Sheba AND Tyler are my closest companions now, one male, one female.  A lot depends on the individual dog and your relationship with the dog.

I much prefer females... but thats just me

I had a wonderful dog Boudreaux when I was little (mostly my moms dog though) .. he died a few years ago of old age, but was a great male.

    I just prefer females.

Right (agree with Glenda) I dont know if I prefer them b/c of that, I know I do because of their smooth bellies and all... I think any dog can be just as great as the other sex not mattering.

It all depends on the dog.  I grew up with both male and female dogs some were more loving then others.  As an adult I have owned two male dogs, I prefer to own males currently but I would not turn away a good female.  The males have bonded to me very well.  But off topic in horses I prefer mares. HE HE!  A good dog is good regardless of sex or color.

I also think it can vary between breeds. Male weims tend to be more laid back than females.  Females can tend to be well bitchy! And almost always when there is a male and female weim living together, the female will run the show(in most cases).

I've had both over the years and I see no difference at all regarding affection or loyalty.  I tend to prefer males myself because they just seem a little goofier - and I do love goofy dogs. Another consideraton is that a neuter seems less problematic and less costly than a spay. Having said that, I certainly wouldn't turn down a dog becaue of the sex.

I actually prefer a neutered male to anything else. They seem to be the most laid back, easiest to train, easiest to add to a group, etc.

That's just generalities, though. Each individual is different.

I really think it depends on the dog and your relationship with it. I don't really prefer one sex over, but I love my two goofball boys.

I would have gone along with the whole, "male is goofier" mentality, but then Miss Sydney happened to me....'nuff said, she broke that theory all to pieces!

Personally prefer neutered males, but that's what I always had growing up...don't think that it really matters too much when the animals are spayed or neutered, it's when they aren't that the hormones come into play and can make a difference.  At least that's my perception, (although I wouldn't really know since I've never had an unaltered pet)

I actually find most females to be more hyper/active compared to males, aswell as more independent and stubborn. That being said though, I much prefer females to males because of this and after Winston, probably won't have another male again.

We have two boys, and two girls.  Here's what I learned from them...

The males attached themselves to one person, and are totally devoted to them.  One male pines away for my wife, and the other male can't live without me.  The girls are a bit more independant, and seem to love everyone equally.

The two girls were easier to potty train.  Within two days, both girls learned where to potty, and never messed on the floor.  The boys took months to get it completely right.

I prefer females, for the ease of potty training.

Oh I have had males that were much more calmer than the exuberant female that I have now. Hee, hee I think I'm doomed it's just her personality! [:D]

i have one female and one male.  the female is extremely attatched to me.  the male like everyone equally.

the female is spayed tho and the male is intact so dont know that would make a difference on how attatched they get.

I've always had male. One female I had growing up wasn't my favorite... I'll probably stick to boys if I can help it. NEUTERED, of course!
