Found a (silly) high value reward for Ari

Despite all my frustrations with her, I have to admit:

    1.  I love her to pieces

    2.  She keeps me amused

    3.  She's is too WEIRD sometimes.

It's been recommended to us to use a spray bottle for various behavioral issues we are struggling with.  Well I NEED to get this on video - the reason why we cannot do this is she LOOOVES the spray bottle.  So it finally (yeah I'm slow sometimes) dawned on me to use this as a REWARD item.   Couldn't be happier - seriously she's back slid a bit in training (just a normal plateau really) but using the spray bottle has revived her interest in obedience Stick out tongue

She absolutely loves being squirted in the face and drinking from the spray bottle.  She goes up to it, nudges it with her nose and sits down calmly waiting for me to soak her face.   Last night I carried it around with me to use as a training tool to redirect her biting, worked out pretty well too.

Do any of your dogs love something that you just find positively amusing?

    USE WHAT WORKS!!!

Bu=u=u=u=u=u=u=t ... Yeah, you should see the LOOKS I get at the grocery store -- they all know David and I don't have kids, but I go thru with these bags of Gerber "Graduates" -- freeze dried bits of banana, strawberry, apple and yogurt 'plops'.  FOR THE DOGS.

And ... baby food -- which I use when I have to give meds not at mealtime.  You'd think it was the best stuff EVAH!!!!

With Billy it's a ball -- any ball ANY time any where.

And with all my dogs MELON -- any kinda melon -- watermelon, cantalope, honeydew -- ANY melon.  YUM (schlurrrrpppp)

    Def use what works! :)

And Callie, you should've seen the looks I got when i bought up baby food and dried fruit thingys for my guinea pigs when I was about 15 - I looked about 13 and boy the cashiers had some notions.  I actually started mentioning that I used them for the GPs to divert the stares. :P

My maggie likes frozen peas for treats herself...

My dogs swoon when they see me start to cook spagetti.  They love the pasta after it is cooked!  This is because I love just plain pasta and will sometimes stand at the sink and eat it out of the strainer. Hangs head in embarassment.  I started throwing pieces to the dogs to reinforce them staying out of the kitchen and now I have three dogs that will do anything for this stuff.  Unfortunately it really doesn't travel well in pocket or pouch as a true training treat. LOL  The funniest thing is when I am tossing spagetti noodles they sometimes stick to another dog's head or ear, etc and look out because that dog is soon fending off the others who try to get that noodle!  My DH just stands and watches the show as he shakes his head.

    lol, ari you silly dog!!!

but yeah, that is one conveniently used reward!!! why not?

I think that's great! I use the spray bottle to discourage the cats and we taught Thor, he shouldn't think it has to be with him. So I think Ari's idea is even better, nothing more amussing than some water sprayed all over your face, to think you are such a good girl!! And yes: she is!! Smile

Crusher loves the spray bottle too.  He and Kali play with it over the baby gate.  Its their 'thing'.  I thought about taking a video of him trying to catch the water and dubbing it with some talking or singing.  I can spray in from all the way across the room and he'll jump up and try to catch the stream.  Great fun!

Willow loves baby food too. LOL, I've mentioned to DH in the past I wouldn't be surprised if DCYF shows up here one day because someone called them and said we are feeling our baby nothing but ham and sweet potatoSurprise

I can just picture that, LOL.  I taught Beau to stay out of the kitchen a similar way.

I get amused at the fact that I can make Beau work for tiny bits of lettuce.  He will happily eat anything -- and I mean anything -- that I call a 'treat'.

And this has nothing to do with training, but Gypsy loves having her back and rear end scratched.  If someone doesn't do it for her, she'll find a way to do it herself. ;) We have a patio table that is the perfect height for her to stand under so that she can rub her back on the bars underneath.  The look on her face as she does it is priceless.  She also loves to ride in the car with the windows rolled down so that the wind can ruffle her fur.  Ahh, sheer bliss.

lot of dogs love chasing the water coming out of a hose. I've always been puzzled by the idea of using a spray bottle as punishment- it's so handy to have dogs who will happily drink the stream coming out of a water bottle, who enjoy being hosed down. Kind of shooting yourself in the foot to teach a dog that water is a punisher.

My agility instructor has used grass as rewards for one of her Aussies lol.

Ena LOOOOVES having her butt slapped. Seriously.... If you're petting her, you end up patting her, and she just llleeeaaannnssss into it, LOL. Because she's bald, it sounds like you're slapping somebody. It's not really such a weird like (At least, Emma likes having her behind patted, too), as it is a weird sound it makes, I guess.

They're also right in there with Callie's dogs on the melon. I gave Ena some grilled shrimp, a couple of melon balls, and a strawberry, at a restaurant, once, and she picked out the melon first. Crazy dog.

Oh I might have to try some melon with Ari - she does get happy if I toss a raspberry her way :)  I never understood using a spray bottle on dogs as a deterrant, but I'm just glad Ari thinks it's great, b/c I've used it several times with great success to redirect her bitey behavior!  I pull it out and she slams her butt down in a sit and waits for the water to come out!
