I need a little help (Bevolasvegas)

Almost two weeks ago, I was sprayed by a skunk.  I had leaned over to try to free a skunk from some debris, & it sprayed me.  Luckily, I think, it pretty much just sprayed my hair.  I ended up using peroxide, baking soda, & dishwashing liquid mixture to help remove the smell.  I had to use that mixture a few times before the smell was gone.  Unfortunately, while the smell is gone, my hair is a wreck.  Now, it is very dry, & I can't seem to restore moisture to it.

Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions to get my hair back to a more normal state?

try using a deep treatment conditioner - the leave in for 15-30 min kind. you only use it like once a week, but it can help

then you can try what i use... pantene pro v shampoo... i dont remember what the exact one is off the top of my head, but it has HYDRATING written on it in big letters. i think its a restorative one. then i use the conditioner, hydrating curls (even though i only have wavy hair)

i dont normally use this combo, but in the middle of the summer the sun/salt/chlorine are killer on my hair, and in the dead of winter the heat dries out my hair, and it works great on me, without making my hair greasy.

the shampoo i use definitely is a shampoo, its not the "treatment rinse" one.. i've never personally tried that, but i love pantene in general, so it might be worth a shot =]

    hope this helps!

*edit* just checked the website, they might have changed it to "moisture renewal" - i think thats my only complaint with pantene, they change their bottle designs often! lol!

Get a leave-in conditioner that you're suposed to leave in for say half an hour.... and leave it in over night.  I like this one:

It says it has a funny smell... but I love the smell!   Unusual but fresh and clean and zingy Big Smile

I've heard Mayo is supposedly good for dried out hair?

The most moisturizing thing I know of is CHI's Silk Infusion. My sis is a hair model for them, so I have a billion sample bottles. If you PM your address to me, I'll pop one in the mail.

Thanks guys.  I have done deep conditioning treatments, with minimal success.

Gina, I tried a combination of mayo, olive oil, & egg whites that did help some.  Maybe straight mayo will help a little more.  I'll try it again.

Meg, thanks!  I'm pm'ing you now.

I havent tried any super incredible conditioners. All the stuff I buy are pretty top end companies anyway, but none in particular stand out... except that actually the conditioners INSIDE the packages of hair color, are actually excellent for dry, processed hair so that might be something to consider... even though the hair color would go to waste. Big Smile

Also, make sure that you are using some sort of silicon gel on our hair after you wash it and it drys. It will help tame the cuticle a bit more.  In general.. time and frequent trims will be your biggest help I am afraid. :(

Strangely enough, the best hair repair I've tried (and I've tried a lot of the more expensive leave-in treatments) is a cholesterol cream treatment by Queen Helene.  I can usually find it at Walgreens or at a beauty supply store----it's also quite inexpensive---around $3.00 a jar (yea!).  It might be worth a try while you wait for Meg's treatment product.

For what it's worth, I've tried the mayo treatment, with no success, but it may work for you.

    Good luck.

I forgot also...check the "black hair" areas of your drugstore for items containing PLACENTA. That is a really really good natural moisturizer and I know it sounds gross but it does work. We folks with ethnic hair can have some of the driest brittlest hair out there and the placenta does a great job.

This product...LINK or something like it might be something to consider.

Have your hairdresser do a hot oil treatment.  The reason your hair is dull is that the Dawn or other dishwashing liquid in the skunk remedy takes the oil off.  If you don't want to spend the cash, warm up some mayo and 1/2 tsp of avocado and use that - keep on for a full 20 minutes before you rinse it off.

I have very dry hair and actually leave a little bit of deep conditioner in it after I wash it, so maybe you can try that too ( I agree that the CHI Silk Infusion is very very good).  Good luck!

The best conditioner I've used is Joico's K-Pak. If you put it on, comb thru and then leave your hair wrapped up in a towel for 20-30 min's, it really seems to add softness and shine back in.
