Lots of horses and birds of prey *very pic heavy*

We went to the Game Fair today, William was in his element.  LOTS of dogs, horses, tractors, birds of prey, a few ferrets.... here are some of the pics I took Smile  There are actually hardly any of William (for a change)...

Here he is getting strapped into his new pushchair... his dad was tickling him.

One of the first things we did was go and watch the horses.  Will was transfixed....

This horse is actually called "William".  I think you can make out his name if you look closely?  Shame I chopped off his feet Sad

Hey, look Will, THIS one is more your size!!  This is a 10yo Shetland gelding.  Very sweet!!

The nearest one is an American Miniature.  He was WEENY!  He was smaller than the Shetland, although he was nearer so that's not clear to see.  Sheesh, there were dogs there bigger than that horse Smile

I loved the birds of prey... could have stood there snapping all day!

    An eagle owl...

The teeniest weeniest owl I have ever seen!

This one was my favourite... the golden eagle.  I took a lot of photos of him.  I mean, yeah he was big and impressive and everything but he also seemed a real character.  He was "talking" to his handler person in this pic.

    Thanks for looking Smile

Wow! It looks like you had a great time!

Do you know maybe, if these are Clydesdale horses?
I spent my childhood with them, but sadly, I don't see the difference between them and Shire horses anymore...Sad

Unfortunately I couldn't tell you... I missed some vital parts of the speech.  There were different breeds of horses there so it could be there were some of both?  Some certainly looked heavier boned than others.  I do know that the Shires are just a little bigger and heavier than the Clydesdales, and Shires *tend* to be black, while Cs *tend* to be bay.  They were developed in different parts of Britain, so they have different ancestry, but the end result is very similar... show me a large horse with hairy feet and I couldn't tell you WHICH breed it was!  Example... I would hazard a guess that the one in the centre, brown (bay?) with white socks, is a Clydesdale, and the black ones on the far end are Shires.

We did have a fantastic time!

Edit:  I started a topic on the Shire/Clyde topic because it sparked my interest!  Here it is...

I know, we were almost close enough to touch them, which Will was very keen to do!  DH got impatient eventually and I had to move on....  There were a few barn owls there and they were ALL completely beautiful.

How is it that the pic of the Snowy Owl made me sad for Hedwig all over again?  Hmm

My exact thought!  But I didn't want to say so, because I was scared of looking like a nerd.... but now 2 other people have bared there Potter heads, so I can too!

I got a slightly sad feeling too, on seeing "Hedwig".  Ack, who am I kidding, on seeing that owl I nearly screeched "OH MY GOD, HEDWIG!!!!"

thanks for posting such lovely pictures, it really made me smile. I love the gentle giants, there are two that live behind my house, a belgian and a percheron, they such amazing animals.

Love raptors...love em. If it weren't so danged expensive I would totally buy one and train with the Falconry Club we have here locally. *sigh* Reminds me of Roland of Gilead's hawk, David. Amazing birds...

I love draft horses...the only one's I'd have aside from Adalusians if I ever had horses. I bet that place smelled heavenly.
