    Bump on nose... bug bite????

Rory woke up this morning with a bump on her nose. It doesnt seem to be bothering her, we can touch it and it doesnt hurt her. She is acting normal and playing. So I am thinking maybe she got bit during her walk last nite or while she was sleeping? We just gave her benedryl to see if it helps. Does it look like swelling from a bug bite? it's just right on top, about the size of a nickel/quarter around and just puffy. Not sure if we should call the vet asap or just wait.

Give the benedryl 2-3 times today (1-2 mg per pound of body weight and given two or three times a day) round the clock.  But watch it closely -- it is mostly likely a spider bite and some of those can require antibiotics.  Watch for an actual 'wound' to develop or if the swelling doesn't recede.  Also watch for other physical signs like her acting stiff or sore **at all** or anything out of the ordinary.  That's a signal to call the vet.  If you see *two* tiny puncture wounds at the center of the swelling, I'd go to the vet (that would be spider).

Jen, Callie gave great advice.  Ari has had bumps on her nose look exactly like that from what I can tell - and while I didn't give any benedryl, the swelling was gone by the next day.  I'm thinking bug bites, and given where I live I'm suspecting mosquitos (the worst was the mosquito bites she got on her eye lids :[ )

Just monitor it, and hopefully your little pupper will be bump free soon!

Do you have something like fireants in your area? She could've dog something up and it bit her on the nose. Or it could be something called Fruit Warts. You can google it if you want to know more about those. Sorry I couldn't tell you more. ~BroCudPos~

Ripley had something like that just recently and it was a bug bite, most likely spider. It went down in less than 24 hours...keep an eye on it though, the vet had said it could be some kind of infection (sorry, can't remember any details) if it didn't go down.
