Do I have Maid written on my forehead??

I went away for 9 days for a bit of a getaway. It was Great! I got to relax, recharge and I didn't have a headache the entire time.

Before I left, I do the kitchen once a day as well as laundry once a week and random tidy-ups. I expected the guys to carry this on. Not that hard of a schedule. Well I get home and the kitchen is a disater, the living room is full of dishes and I'm being told as soon as I walk in the door that the bedding needs to be washed!!!  Now granted the living room got rearranged and the carpet vacuumed, but that's not the point!!

I hoped that everything would have been kept up so I could take a couple days and unpack but NO!! So I've spent the last couple days cleaning and catching up everything. *sigh*...

    Rant over...

You have pets and kids and you actually got to "get away" BY YOURSELF for nine days?......I have to re-negotiate my contract!

No kids. Lol. But I've got two pets and I live with 5 guys. I run away to my parents house once a year.  As for the contract, I just state I'm going and they can starve if need be.  Lol.  When I do have kids, it'll probably be a bit harder but if I don't leave for a bit then some one gets hurt. I was in the hospital for 5 days when I had Samantha. Before I left I had washed all the dishes, all the clothes, and cleaned up the whole house. JJ was at the hospital most of the time with me.

BUT I still came home to every single dish in the house dirty. So dirty they needed soaking. Clothes all over the place, soft drinks cans everywhere, ash trays everywhere, every video game out on the floor, etc. AND I had no cat food left.

Apparently when I told JJ to make sure he fed the cats he thought that meant dump the whole 5lb bag out.

I got lucky and JJ's mom came and cleaned everything up!!! Remind me next time to have the next baby at home!!!

Let me get this straight....You feed and clean up after five dudes, none of which are your husband or children?.....Did you lose a bet or something?.......I don't think I would do that even if they were.........

1 Josh Holloway [Sawyer from Lost]

    2 George Clooney

3 Aaron Rogers [QB for the Green Bay Packers]

4 Chad Kroeger [lead singer of Nickelback]

    5 Will Smith

Close. Lol. I'm engaged to one of them and he cooks when I don't want to but the other guys do nothing. It's not the best arrangement but it's the best where I live.. Lol. I'm beginning to think I did loose a bet somewhere along the line.

Look deeeep into my eyes.  Repeat after me:" You guys are cappable of cleaning your own messes.  I am NOT a maid. You will clean your own/share of the messes up or I WILL kick your butt to the curb".  Repeat as often as necessary.

You have no reason to put up with this crap unless they are PAYING YOU to be their maid.

I don't mind the cleaning.. I just didn't expect to come back to what I did.. And no one offered to help. I think that hurt the most in all this.

I don't normally put up with it either. But cleaning now to me is my release, even if I hate doing it sometimes. Lol.

And no one is going to OFFER to help...you will do it, and they know it.

    • Gold Top Dog

You're right.. They know if they wait long enough, I'll get fed up and do it myself cuz I can't live like that..

I don't know why it hurt this time when no offered to help. Alex just walks up behind me, gives me a hug because I'm doing "the domestic thing" then goes back to his video games.. Normally I don't mind but I don't know why this time is so different. *sigh* Really I can't wait to get our own place.. Just the two of us with our pets.  We can split the chores easily enough. We've done it before but when the new roommates moved in, it was like he couldn't hear me anymore.

Your last sentence says it all...

I hate messes, but the resentment I had from cleaning up after people over the years - foster family, husband, stepkids, my own kid - was worse.  I learned to give them their messy places (bedrooms) and the rule was I didn't touch them.  Common areas - living room, kitchen, bathroom - had to be left in a reasonable state.  When I cleaned those areas and nobody pitched in, their junk got thrown away.  Usually it only took once to make my point.

You could also leave them a bill for all the work you had to do to straighten up.

I do throw out everything that I don't recognize. I usually tell them, if they want to keep it, move it. At the moment Alex and I don't have a bedroom *stupid roommate!* so we're sleeping in the living room.  And I don't go into the guy's bedroom, that's their own space.

I guess I just needed a vent. I do feel better after it. Smile  And when I stop and think about it, if I ask Alex to do something to help then he does but he just doesn't offer. *shrugs* I really can't wait for our own place!

    • Gold Top Dog

Ahh, will help if you ask, but doesn't offer.  I think that is a guy thing.  They don't seem to mind stepping over stuff.

Lol! True yet I hear about it when one of them stubbs their toe on something.
